Here's the message:

Hello Criterion!

I'm sorry to contact you out of the blue like that but I should have done it a long time ago. :-)

I'm the webmaster of lddb.com (LaserDisc Database) where Criterion original releases are prominently featured:

https://www.lddb.com/

LD Criterion release by:

CC # = https://www.lddb.com/list.php?format=ld ... ef&max=250
Title = https://www.lddb.com/list.php?format=ld ... it&max=250
Spine = https://www.lddb.com/list.php?format=ld ... ne&max=250

All available covers, in chronological order: https://www.lddb.com/criterion.php

Site's forum section dedicated to Criterion releases: The Criterion Collection

I know you dropped Laserdiscs decades ago and jumped into DVD, BluRay (no 4K coming?) and soon video streaming.

I have very simple questions/requests for you:

Would you still have people working at Criterion who used to work on the LD packaging/curating that I could interview?

Any left-over material (unused concepts, cancelled releases, etc.) that the fan would love to discover?

Any LD-related archives that would love to get a 2nd youth?

I'm trying to save the very little that remains from the 80's/90's before they completely disappear ^_^;

Thank you for taking the time to read this message!

Regards,
Julien

You are awesome! I hope this works they seem to not want anything to do with LD these days since they promised to add it to the collection feature but never did.

Edit: I posted this in the Criterion Collection thread on blu-ray.com. hopefully this garners more attention because it deserves it.

This is great! Very curious on if they back to you. I can't imagine they completely wiped their LD era stuff, but I suppose it's possible. Hoping for the best.

Not yet.

Had a pending order with them after the flash sale and pushed my request again via the customer support department after 2 weeks.

No feedback yet.

Already did :-)

Criterion is having a 50% off 24-hour sale today

Last Emperor as an update to my Last Emperor, The (1987) (Uncut) [PILF-1356]
The Night of the Hunter because I studied it in my A/V class back at school, liked it, and somehow never got a copy of it till today.
The Game because I love this movie and already have the DTS LD, Japanese LD, Criterion LD ... Don't ask.

Sadly Paths of Glory was the main reason to order a batch and it's been back-ordered since then, no visibility on repleneshing of stocks.

I offered to replace it with another identically priced BD such as:

I was a little surprised by the lack of flexibility in the reply:

Quote:
Unfortunately we can't substitute in another film, break up an existing order into multiple shipments, or add to it; only permanently remove titles.

They lost $20 since I cancelled Paths of Glory in the end and shipped the 3 remaining ones.
But they did compensate with a $10 voucher.

I completely forgot that thread :oops:

That seems odd of them since they would do anything to make their customers happy.

Still nothing.

They dutifully took care of my BD order (without Paths of Glory) and remain dead silent on anything not making them a dollar.

Sad.

Are they a streaming company now?
Securing new licensing rights before a streaming champion steps in and buys them all for the next 20 years?

weird. It seems more profitable to sell the dvds and BDs than streaming since you pay for each movie as oppose to paying one fee for unlimited movies it seems.

Many of these companies bank on people subscribing and just forgetting about it while raking in those recurring payments.

This is the real future of customer service from larger businesses, you will get these fool mom and pops who think they have to do everything
even if it makes them bankrupt but these larger companies will just blow us off and we will keep coming back for more.

Experienced both of the above situations too many times first hand from large and small.

Reminds me of this guy who when I mentioned that ebay wanted to do mandatory returns he told me, sure its a great thing even this department store in the
area did returns after 3 years. When I asked him what happened to that store he said they went out of business :lol:

Yes. They took over where Filmstruck left things.

I've been a member since before they launched about a year ago. Locked in at a discount rate thanks to signing up early.

They have a great selection on there. I've watched a lot of titles on it I would have otherwise missed. A lot of great film noir for example. Well worth a subscription I think.
