Hello. I could not find any photos or discs on the internet of Sanyo Baseband discs, which we can consider as the exact equivalent of Sony HDVS discs. Did anyone find it? I think it's probably in the paid documentation on IEEExplore, but the price is high.

In some documents, HVL-BM2000 is referred to as "High Density Disc" as it says on it.

That particular area of technology falls in 4 cracks:

  • No Internet to document/publish in digital form
  • The love of Japanese corporations for paper-based documents (that you can... stamp, yes we're till there in 2024)
  • Everybody expert in the 80's was probably in their 40's or more and have retired or passed since
  • All these company divisions closed down decades ago, inventories/documents were scrapped

We are all in Indiana Jones' quest now.

That's the reason I started the LD and Hardware databases, because this information is slowing fading away and won't ever come back.

Yes, the same goes for Analog HDTV and older HD monitors. It's very difficult to find anything. Thanks for creating the site. Do you think it makes sense to e-mail companies for 3D HDVS, HD VHD, Baseband disks?

You can try... if there is even someone to contact.

You can't even contact Pioneer LDC, they shut down entirely.
SONY had already given up on repairing MUSE decoders in early 2000's.

Everyone I tried contacting over the years (that includes the Criterion Collection, Doug Pratt, Hong Kong LD publishers, etc.) has never replied.
Pioneer just politely told me to go .... play somewhere else as I was not a "certified professional".

Nobody cares anymore in the corporate world.
No money to be made there.
