I've never seen this logo before from Pioneer: LaserMidi for a Karaoke system. Ever heard of a Z-AV50 or Z-AV90 with an integrated LD player? https://shopee.co.id/Kaset-laser-disc-demo-jadul-i.23237046.1236369060 Attachment: Attachment: Julien |

Oh I think I can kind of guess what that is already. I've seen pictures of these weird bookshelf stereo units (which I think are sometimes called midi hi-fi, hence the name?) with LD players built in and this looks like of them. I'm spotting the LaserKaraoke logo too. |

Do they mean the systems are “midi” as in mid size, as in not a mini skirt but a midi skirt, or do they mean MIDI as in Music Instrument Digital Interface? I’m thinking the former probably. Nothing about that gear screams music production to me. |

Just found one for sale here on "Leboncoin". This one is called a V75 "Dolby" and it's retail cost was the equivalent of around 2 000 today's €. Attachment: There even is a scan of an article on it from "Les années Laser". With what I read from the article, it sounds like the "midi" name is used more like it rather just means "HiFi" than anything else really. Still a pretty unique thing in the LD world for sure. |

That seems about right. I always just assumed "midi" in this context was some kind of a weird abbreviation of "medium size", to indicate that that's essentially a bookshelf and/or all-in-one unit. |

I prefer mini instead of midi. The Japanese can be funny with English. |

Mini is smaller than Midi. You can’t make a mini system based on an LD player because LDs are too big but you could make something mid-way. Smaller than the full sized 18” equipment standard but bigger than a mini system. Mini systems (two cassettes wide, basically, CD based, no turntable) were just getting to be a thing at the time so this would have made sense to people. There are a lot of “cute” marketing terms for stereo systems in Japan. Much of it is forgotten the next year or so. |
