I took a chance on YAJ and bought Sony: The Test Disc (1995) [00MW-0009] with obvious scratches on it.

Sometimes the laser can read through and the seller had not mentioned the standard "no claim, no return" in the shop policy so... I gave it a try.

Chapters 1-6 are OK.

It starts skipping/laser locking/cycling from chapter 7 with obvious video noise (this is actually a few frames from chapter 8!).

And is unable to play normally chapter 8, 9 and 10. The MSC-4000 only outputs random noise patterns every few seconds. At some points it froze, had to turn it off/on again to get the processing back on.
You can hear the X9 trying really hard to read it.

Things get back to normal from chapter 11.

Seller agreed to a full refund, I sent it back today.

This is a bit of an odd question, but do you know if the seller is going to try and re-sell it at a discount? I've been looking for an affordable (or "affordable") Hi-Vision LD for a media format collection, and I actually don't care at all whether it's playable or what's on it. Although, maybe this is collectable enough I'd still be expensive.

I have no idea what the seller wants to do with it, but he hasn't relisted it. He might have tossed it.
And at US$120, I was not going to keep an expensive half-readable disc, I took the refund+shipping back option.

I could give you his YAJ account but:
1/ you need to have a Japanese address to create an account to send messages.
2/ you will have to speak Japanese exclusively.
3/ I would be surprised that he would ship outside Japan (reshippers are filled with pending deliveries or returned ones right now, not really an option).
