Does anybody know what the heck this thing is?

The listing says it's an LD-ROM, and it looks like a laserdisc, but the photos of the package don't mention the format anywhere and I can't seem to google up anything about it.

I know Sony had a 12" 6.5GB data disc, but those use the same caddies as CRV-Discs so it isn't that.

Have you tried to search before asking?
