Here's my recently finished and restored CED player SJT 400 that came to me in a mess. The front face was split loose from the body and had pieces cracked off. Turntable had slid to the bottom of the stem, stylus arm had rolled back and forth breaking some gears, no shipping screws in place. After I got a partial refund for the damages, the player cost me $25 plus shipping. With the help of a useless SJT parts player, and epoxy and patience, it's now working like new. Got the remote too. Because of cracks in the case that were visible, I ended up painting it black to match the LD players and other stuff. I used Krylon plastic primer, and then burnished that finish with fine steel wool for a smooth surface, cleaned, then Krylon black gloss plastic spray paint. First coat very light, again burnished. Finish coat a bit heavy to get the full gloss effect without spray-over or spray edge effect. Had to be done over several days as to do this without runs means painting each surface facing up. Let it dry in warm sunlight for a few days, and now it looks like a factory finish. Testing it out with Endangered Species. Attachment:

Yep, it can. In fact it's currently on my Sharp Aquos LCD set and looks great. It has composite output with stereo RCA plugs output, many discs are stereo and several of these discs are dolby prologic matrixed surround sound. Only a few discs were letterboxed, though, so I have to use the side curtains, but that's okay. Many of the RCA CED players have the composite A/V outputs. No CED player had s-video output. A good CED player with good stylus can output resolution that's equal to Beta 1, the high quality beta tape speed. Here's the best reference site for these: http://www.cedmagic.com/selectavision.htmlAnd for available titles: http://www.cedmagic.com/title-database/ ... elect.htmlAnd the forum: http://www.cedmagic.com/forum/As an avid LD collector, I think of CEDs as a sister medium and not really in competition as far as collecting goes. One does need to have a bit of technical expertise to maintain the players however, but they are not really difficult to keep them going. Here's a nice video of one in action with the cover off: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3vTIt-MH3o

Looks great! I am a long-time laserdisc collector, and have decided to dip my toe in CED as a lover of vintage electronics. On ebay, I found an SKT 400 mislabeled as a stk 400. Seems to work well. I have heard that the 400s are the rarest model. How rare compared to the others?

It's not so much that it's rare, but that the 400 series is the best player of all, state of the art for CED players and no better ones were made as the 400 series is the last. There are a few other player that are more rare, such as the Sears clone of the Sanyo player and the actual Sanyo player itself. Also the Toshiba models are somewhat more rare. If you like the system, you'll want to become more familiar with it via the cedmagic.com website. There are quite a few CED titles that were not released on LD in the US. Here's a forum thread with some tips about getting the 400 up to good operating condition: http://www.cedmagic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1812
