Post subject:  SHARP VP-X10B: My very first foray into VHD
Hi!! My name's Eric, I'm from Montreal, QC (Canada). I've been a HUGE fan of Laserdisc for more than 7 years at least. But one format that I had never heard of: VHD.

Well after exploring Buyee, I bought my very first VHD Player: the Sharp VP-X10B.
Beautiful damn thing!!

Getting a load of VHD titles soon from japan so I'm VERY EXCITED.

Some very fascinating info I found:

there were only 3 players ever to have the QX circuitry
other than the 2 you mentioned, there is also a Sharp one, however despite having the circuitry, it didn't have the QX logo, for some reason. I believe because it already was seen as a failed standard and Sharp just didn't bother, because this particular player was the very last to be released
I have read many report on those 2ch Japanese channels, only thing is....I don't remember which one of the 2,
VP-X10B
VP-R20B

If I have to guess I would say the X10B, since it "seem" the most complete, it includes Dolby Surround decoder and VHDpc port (and 3D of course), the other doesn't
Anyway they certainly are the prettiest VHD players around

These are the VHD titles I have ordered, as you can see I'm going for the unknown, japanese culture stuff, stuff that isn't on LD.

Mostly focusing on japanese cultural related stuff, background video, oddities, especially stuff thats not on LD.

Very cool, hope you enjoy it, I think xtempo has a VHD also?
I wanted to try getting into this but after getting the cheaper USA CED players I decided to stick with LD and DVDs.

But I did just find and insert what looks like a rare anime, you may want to check out if you like anime. Earth Story Telepath 2500

Are you sure this player is QX-ready?

So far we only identified 2 players with the logo:

Hi Julien,

Not 100% sure no. I just copy-pasted the info from that other post bout VHDs. But from the looks of it, it seems like a very advanced model probably made in the late 80's? Or 1990?? I'm also trying to find a PDF manual wiyhout any luck... :(

Update: So, good news, my local LD repair man managed to get my VHD player working. It works well for something so weird...and it is a fascinating experience and format but the image quality is....well not great
..seems more like a VHS quality...and LD is waaaay better but a great format nevertheless.
