I've noticed a pattern: If the Japanese analog Laserdisc is letterboxed, then the VHD is letterboxed as well. Likewise, if the analog LD is Pan & Scan then the VHD is Pan & Scan as well. 2010: The Year We Make Contact is fully letterboxed on VHD at a 2.20:1 ratio.

Aren't all the 3D VHDs letterboxed as well?

Studios not willing to finance 2 different masters, sending the same (D2?) tapes to LD or VHD manufacturers?

Probably too early for D2, but yeah. No need for more masters. I wouldn’t be surprised if the VHS also showed the same trend.
