Was on Ebay at the right time and got this from someone in southern CA who got it at an estate sale from someone who worked on the format. As you all know, it was slated to come out on the US market in 1982 but they got cold feet and decided not to, but some players and discs were made.
Here's video of it in action with the cover off- had to manually get the mechanism started as it hadn't been used in over 35 years. Player also had no stylus but takes the same as the Japanese Victor players:
Doesn't handle bad discs as well as my National player, but amazed that it works at all. This should go into a museum.
Also got a few US discs, here's the intro from one:
Not all of them have this intro- Paramount movies have nothing at all but the movie, and MCA titles have the same MCA Videodisc opening that was on their laserdiscs and CEDs. I've had a Japanese player for a while but this prompted me to get a little more crazy with the format!
There are a lot of VHD discs on ebay that are hidden in the LD section and others. I saw about 50 listed separately when I was doing an LD search but that was a few months ago and can't remember how I found them.
Just had a chance to watch the videos, yeah I would say old grease too.
Intros are pretty cool, like the early laservision side A etc I guess you had to have some type of side bumper in the beginning so others knew what was going on and that the disc was not broken LOL.
Ty would have loved to hear about this if he didn't know about a USA player.
