Post subject:  Adding D-VHS players to the Hardware database

Just started:

https://www.lddb.com/device/dvhs

But I was wondering what features would be interesting to add to differentiate/qualify players?

So far I've seen D-Theater (with this post from substance) as well as DD and/or DTS out. Maybe Region as well?

Are there more D-VHS-specific features?
Were all D-VHS players also backward compatible with VHS and S-VHS?

As far as I know it can play everything VHS and SVHS (but I don't have a tape and I also have to fix mine). I think it is region lock or at least the tapes are region on it.
My player has component out where others are still just composite out but some are even HDMI out.

There are "D-theater" decks and then there are "D-VHS" decks. D-theater is region coded. All studio releases were Region 1 (USA) then Digital video essentials and "One From the Heart" were multi region and will play in the Region 2 Victor HM-DHX2. No Region 2 tapes were ever released. HM-DHX2 is the only region 2 D-theater deck.

The Admin validation code is live now so I added all the pending entries:

Victor/JVC HM-DH30000U
Victor/JVC HM-DH40000U
Victor/JVC HM-DH400U
Victor/JVC HM-DH5U
Victor/JVC HM-DHX2
Victor/JVC HM-DT100U
Marantz MV8300
Panasonic NV-DHE20

You may now submit new entries for validation => https://www.lddb.com/submit.php

Or submit updates with the same process as for discs.

I haven't seen this on any other machine but mine. Its the JVC 40000U model but it has Dtheater instead of JVC in the upper left hand corner. It might just be a sticker but its hard to know for sure.

It really looks like the logo is missing and someone put back a sticker instead??

Turns out a player can be compatible with D-Theater yet not output Dolby Digital (ex: Victor/JVC HM-DH5500) or output Dolby Digital (from BS channels) without reading D-Theater tapes (like Victor/JVC HM-DH35000).

I'll make DD it optional, just like DTS.

I don't know for sure but I think it was factory or maybe a store but there isn't any info on when I was checking.

HM-DH35000 also decodes and outputs 5.1 AAC internally, it's the only player to do so. US model players will not internally decode a tape with an AAC soundtrack, which is unfortunate as most BS source recorded tapes have an AAC audio stream. They will still play but a message indicating an outboard tuner is required to decode.

That would be a perfect reason to try to submit an update on this player :-)

I'm trying to move the relevant/interesting information away from isolated Forum posts to permanent/searchable data per player.
