Post subject:  Best VHS rewinder?

Looking into a rewinder so I can have less wear and tear on the JVC DVHS VCR. So what's the absolute best? Can it be used to rewind DVHS tapes or would that be better in the JVC? thanks.

are the DVHS the same size as regular VHS?
you have to look for one that will have an auto stop or that can read the leader on the tape.

i have a cheap one that i haven't used in some time, but i know that it will do the auto stop and that's something you MUST have.

or you could pickup a cheap VCR to just use as RR etc.

I am currently looking into Kinyo which seems to be the best in accessories or at least my experience with them. DVHS tapes seem exactly the same as VHS in the package form but I know the tape itself can't be the same tape. Or is it the same exact tape only the mastering would be different to accommodate for higher quality picture and sound?

I have a rewinder that I picked up recently from Radio Shack. It's not a very fast rewinder, so it might be safe to use for D-VHS. So far, it hasn't damaged my S-VHS tapes/recordings :knocks on wood:

You could buy one of those rewinders, make a recording and then test it a few times and see if it affects playback.

I'll get that too since I can find one local. I was only bidding on a used Kinyo so if I don't get that then this should be okay. I may just use the JVC for the DVHS since I only have 4 and 2 blanks at that moment but I really need this for is my large anime VHS collection. I use to have one like over 10 years ago and don't remember what I did with that.

Hi xtempo,
Bringing this topic back to life since I have a similar questions. Did you ever get this resolved? The tapes seem to be the same physical size, am I okay using a normal VHS rewinder?

i for one sure wouldn't mind finding one of those industrial VHS winders that allow you to clean the tape as it passes. that would be real nice for many of my vintage ex-rental copies, i'd think...
