Who has used this feature? Is it on all decks? I know its on my HM-DH40000U. in the past I hooked it up to my G5 which worked for awhile now I ordered a cable to hook it up to my Mac Pro 2009 Classic (which uses a different firewire port than the G5 did).

I don't think my Sharp camcorder even has the port but I look to see if I use it with it.

I know there some of us around that has one type of these decks.

It’s just Firewire 400, right? Be sure you’re trying to use it the right way. It’s basically just an input/output system. You use it to capture or display DV but only in real time, or at least that’s how it was back in like 2003 when I last used it. It’s pretty much for getting DV tapes onto HDs for editing.

It's also the way you would record HD programming from a Satellite or Cable Box since the machine D-VHS VCRs didn't have any HD video inputs.

I kind of wonder if they still make cable boxes with firewire outputs to support this these days.

I have tried the various options in FC Pro HD but I might try using FCE ( I might have it or I may have to get that and go lower like to Lion). Looking at the system report under firewire it was warning me that apple couldn't list it so I have various things to figure out. maybe even go back to the G5 if I can.

Should know soon in a couple weeks when I go if I do have a copy of FCE and Lion but I'm not going stress over this its fun to tinker. Maybe I should buy a DV Deck itself and see what happens but can't at the moment.

You need the firewire sdk to use the VCR for ANYTHING on a Mac. I want to say version 24 was the one to have. Then you'll use one of the tools to open the stream. The output is not HDV, but it will convert HDV as an input.

Unfortunately you now need developer access to get it from Apple and Apple nixes all shareware sites. I had to get it from irc the last time I needed it 3-4 years ago.
