I have been thinking of getting this S1 set for a while now.
Can anyone confirm if CGI enhancements are there/not there on HD-DVD and DVD sides?

It only includes the "enhanced" version.

Thanks.

Looks like around half of my discs are rotted. Some have easily visible rot on the HD DVD side and refuse to load at all, while others look fine at first and seem to play, but then freeze up when they get to the 2nd layer.

Oh well, the BDs have both the new and original SFX, as already noted. I wouldn't be surprised if the HD DVDs are encoded slightly better since they use AVC while the BDs use VC1 (for some reason), but I doubt it's noticeable.

Every now and then I still look around to see if this set pops up locally.
Nothing right now, but I got distracted by something related.

A "special edition" remote control that apparently works with Toshiba HD-DVD players (not sure if it's all models) shaped like a phaser.
CiB "new" it isn't cheap, but loose it's probably less than half the new price.

Not that I have a stand alone Toshiba player anyway... but it's interesting.

I actually have that remote. It was sold via a mail-in offer here in the U.S.A.. Purchased mine locally from a ex-Star Trek collector who was very not happy with the direction Sony/CBS has taken the franchise and as such was liquidating his collectibles.

Never understood this mentality. "They made something I hate so now I hate all the things I used to love to, too"

s**t, I had the complete opposite reaction - when Disney turned Star Wars into a complete turd, I ended up clinging way harder to the parts I did like and actually started collecting old SW tat despite never doing so before!

jakeheke start with series one of the 1960's originals & take it from there, I think you will enjoy them.

I grew up with the original series shown for years on the BBC here in the UK, can still watch them.

Live long & prosper
