Superman and Purple Rain showed up today. Superman I did a quick chapter speed through, and it played all the way through. Purple Rain however, died on me around the 40 minute mark. Looks like I'll need a replacement on that one as well.

Received 11 hddvd's just yesterday. Purchased trough ebay.com mint sealed. Fired them all up...
Only one troublemaker ... Lethal Weapon 2! Warner... go figure...
This is the first and only discs that refuses my hd-xa1 with 4.0 firmwire.
My toshiba hd-ep35 - european a-35 spins the disc without a glitch...
This is the first hddvd I get that works on only one of both machines!
The rest of all my Warner discs play troublefree.
out of 11 discs I bought only one "troublemaker, I can live with that.
Oh well,
They were dead cheap and mint sealed

Image

Now I have 4 HD-DVD players: 2x HD-EP20, 1x HD-A30, 1x HD-E1
And about 100 HD-DVD discs (different titles, all playing well)
And 2 discs double (for trade of sell), 1 disc that isn't playable

Which Toshiba HD-DVD player had the Reon chip? I have an A2 that I really love but would like to get the RCA clone of the first Toshiba (the Pentium-4 PC player!) and also the Toshiba with the Reon chip. My father-in-law had it and I've never seen such amazing deinterlacing or upscaling performance before.

My Toshiba A2 player has the 4.0 firmware but many of my Warner discs have died - all 3 of the HD's in Blade Runner no longer play without freezing and giving an error code - I had a copy of The Avaitor that played fine, now it errors out and I can't find a good copy. All my Universal discs, my Imports and few Paramount titles are good - and my Dual Disc's from Warner like Rumor Has It still play perfectly - I did have one dual disc fall apart - the DVD side just seperated cleanly away from the HD disc side. But both sides would still play if put in a player with a CD on top of them to make them thick enough to clamp - I wish I had kept them but Microsoft replaced them because they were doing a major research project into the problem of HD-DVD failures.

Xa2 is the model number for the player with reon chip. Onkyo hd805 and integra dhs 8.8 are clones with no hw upgrade but tweaked fw (their claim).
A30 and A35 are one generation newer but dropped reon chip. A35 and Xa2 are the best of the bunch. A35 is sharper where as Xa2 is smoother

Bourne Ultimatum
Children of Men

I've never heard of a Universal HD-DVD release having any playback troubles - Universal's discs were made by a different company than the Warner titles that are failing.

Damn, Blade Runner discs are goin bad? I checked my set, and other than some really serious looking deformities on the Workprint disc, which I was never really interested in, all of them played through on a quick scan through without issue. When I have more time, I should really sit down and watch all 3 discs. I freaking love Blade Runner, but not enough to rebuy it on Blu Ray. If my HD DVDs are bad then I guess I'll have to stick with my Director's Cut Laserdisc, which holds up pretty well.

Just received a replacement copy of Purple Rain, it seemed to play all the way through to the credits, no stalling!

How does Hunt For Red October look and sound on HD-DVDa. I saw it theatrically in 70mm SS and it was a great experience. I only have the DVD of it now - oh, and the CD-I non-VCD compatible version.

Haven't tried it yet. I just got the Bond 50 Blu ray set so I'm working my way through those. Really interested in seeing how Terminator 2 and Total Recall look as well as the Jack Ryan set.

I would trade my right arm for those Jack Ryan films. They're so ridiculously overpriced these days.

There is a HD-A1 for sale on the local Craigslist that I was sorely tempted by. I have a XA2 that works perfectly and an spare A1 in the garage, which was my original player. I decided that this was enough players for now, although I'd pick up another XA2 if the option presented itself.

I have about 200 or so HD DVD's and some imports, also have a brand new XA2 stored away tested for the shut down bug and passed. And an A3 one BDP-UP5k and two internal LG Super M combo's for the HTPC.
JRC and La Môme are still sealed along with FP, TL.

I'd love to get the Phaser remote. Kinda late now. Maybe someone will part with one now that HD DVD is defunct, then again, it's Star Trek.

Yea the phaser remote is pretty kweel, it has two selectable phaser sounds when changing channels and can also be muted. It works well with the Toshiba HD DVD players.
