I used my Xbox 360 HD-DVD add on for the longest time, but kept my eyes open for a good HD-DVD player locally, and I ended up lucking out and getting a Samsung BD-UP5000 hybrid player with the manual and remote for only $60, and this was 2 years ago. I love that it plays my HD-DVDs in 1080p and supports all of the newer audio codecs, which I know some of the earlier players didn't. Other than freezing up on my Smallville Season 6 set (a known rotter), I have never had an issue with it playing HD-DVD discs. However, I don't use it for Blu-rays, because there haven't been any updates in years for the player, and from what I've read, certain updates get rid of compatibility with certain discs.

I used my lg bh200 as my primary player for the longest time. I also had samsung 5000up. Samsung never released firmware update for it but lg did. They even made the player bd 2.0 complient with bd live.
With an easy firmware tweak you could make lg bh200 multi system (pal ntsc) multi region (both dvd and bd)
It is a superb dvd player with marvel qdeo for video processing. Samsung 5000up uses hqv reon which is also good.

correct me if I'm wrong

does a Hybrid player support the extra's on hddvd? or was that the earlier BH-100 :?:
Never owned a dual format player since I'm a bit worried about "issues"
If I would get me one it would be nice if it could do the job with "recent" blu ray discs as well
Sooner or later I"m sure one will cross my path

Bh200 will play most disc. Its very slow comparing to todays players. Some new discs will take even longer. I ve had so few discs that didnt play on it. You can access all extras. It is the besf hybrid and hddvd player along with xa2. Bd playback is on par with oppo 83. No streaming of any kind. Its straight didc player.

You can swap fw it will bd all region dvd player with auto region switch.. You can change region coding for blurays in service menu with remote control commands. It will play all bds from all regions regardless pal ntsc.
