Watched "Full Metal Jacket" (1987) on HD-DVD.
First time I saw it was on rental VHS around 1988.
Nicely directed paced with the story from training at boot camp to combat in the field.
Filmed in Cambridgeshire, UK. Word is Stanley Kubrick, wasn't at all keen on flying so a location was found and it was dressed and even imported trees to make it look authentic.

The camera lighting and film to video transfer looks smart no noticeable issues solid all around good picture quality.
British born sound mixer Andy Nelson, wow and it did sound cool and I like fact it wasn't overran with music score and mostly driven by dialouge and effects. The mix was originally released in MONO and this newer release is in Dolby 5.1 Plus and even if you listened to the mono mix I'd say it won't be too far about from the 5.1 as you'd be hearing a solid firm centre channel mix that carries most effects music when it comes in, and of course the dialouge.
If I'm not too mistaken that looks like Bell Jetranger helicopter shadow on the trees and yet in the next shot...
Its a Westland Wessex helicopter. I have to admit I have eye for detail and I don't need it played in HD 1080i to spot it.
There was no playback issues with HD-DVD no freezing or locking-up as I would have expected as it was an opened disc, second-hand that I bought at the market on Sunday, 21st April 2013, for £2.00.
