I just bought the region free update for my Toshiba HD-A2 from the listed seller. Now I won't have to make copies of discs to remove the region coding to play PAL titles. I didn't even know there were sellers of such software on eBay until now. How cool. |

Why would you buy this? The update is available online for free it just takes some looking. I am pretty sure that I have the files somewhere and when I get a chance I will upload them somewhere for you guys. |

I got my discs read the included instructions and found that my XA2 would now essentially be a XE1 exporting only a Pal Signal. My Panasonic TC-P54G10 plasma doesn't appear to accept a Pal signal so that Ebay purchase was a waste of money for me. I didn't open the disc, so I'm going to check for at least a partial refund. |

Went through the region hack + v4.0 firmware update, everything worked just great. It's an HP-EP35 now and read/upscale all DVDs + RCE remote control hack if needed. Firmware CDs available if someone is interested. Julien |

Region free hack is for sd dvd playback. Hd dvd discs are region free. Some hd dvds are encoded in 1080i50 or 720p50 which wont work in us spec players. Another instance you need the region hack. |

If you don't have a PAL-capable display and install this firmware, it will go back to outputting a viewable picture if you play any HD-DVD or NTSC standard DVD on it. I gave one of my modded players to my parents who have a Samsung which won't display PAL, but they can watch HD-DVDs on it and when stopping or ejecting those you can access the player menus. I went out of my way to make sure I got a TV (Sharp) that could display PAL with no problems. |
