Post subject:  HD DVD Firmware upgrade via ethernet

Hello everyone..

Where in the world do I find on my players (HD-D1 for one, have to look again at the newer Toshiba) for where they list what firmware they are using? when I go to update via internet/ethernet I keep getting " server not found/reset" or something along those lines--did Toshiba cut the cord on that link to their updates online and therefore I need to make a disc? Totally baffled...cannot even find the answer in my owners manuals--

On the HD D1 when I go to "upgrade" on the menu, it says on top 4.0 to be upgraded to--i think--or does that mean what it already has???? Those machines were always plugged into the ethernet for YEARS now--would it have auto upgraded if I had set them that way? I don't even remember its been so long (and, I am old...)

HELP please..anyone?

If it says 4.0 on the top, the player should have firmware 4.0. Then there's nothing to update.

Only in case he wants a DVD region-free firmware...:-) But then he had too update through USB...I`m sure that Toshiba stopped their servers while ago.

Not through USB but by recording an image to a CD-R !

If 4.0 FW is required these days :

Bought a few discs from this seller.
Works like a charm and one is sure the disc works!

Price is more than reasonable IMHO

I think I am ok--I checked the firmware again (when it asks if you want to update) and the only info that pops up is "4.0" and some other numbers, but then I am wondering is it asking me TO update to 4.0 or is that what it HAS already?? That was my confusion from the earlier post. That being said, they still have the link to make an ISO disc on Toshiba--I'm checking my HD A20 here shortly and see what it has on it--I should have kept up with the updates and such but was so mad when they ended the format I just said screw it and didn't even watch a movie for about 5 or 6 years now--been collecting 3D bluray ...

(I know, its a terrible sin...but 3D is cool...heh heh heh..long live HD DVD..!)
