I had no problems playing this movie.
My movie score 5/10.

And by far the best in the series by at least a quarter mile...

Did a round yesterday:

Casablanca (1942) [79208] => dead
Appleseed Ex Machina (2007) [3000014884] => only the DVD side will play

Only good news, a Warner title survived:

Enter the Dragon (1973) [80929] => watched entirely yesterday, no issue

Dr. Seuss How The Grinch Stole Christmas (Universal Combo format, USA)

Perfect picture and sound. No laser rot.

A great "forgotten" jim carrey/christmas movie.

My score 6/10.

Just watched "Norbit" (Dream Works, U.S., single-side disc) and it worked fine for me.

Quite a bad movie though. ;)

My score 4/10.

Had a "last man on earth" movie marathon which included two HD-DVDs from my collection:
Omega Man, The (1971) [118537]
This played perfectly.

and:
I Am Legend (2007) [3000015289]
While the player managed to recognize it as a HD-DVD disc, it also refused to play any second of it.
This is my first completely dead disc.

They do have it on LD you need to watch the first incarnation of this classic story, while not as good as Omega Man
it really has the feel of the actual story much more.

Agree with your feelings on The Last Man On Earth.

The "Apocalyptic Nightmares Double Feature" LD with The Last Man On Earth & Panic In Year Zero can be a bit hard to pick up but pretty sure both the features are pretty easy to find on DVD for not too much.

For various reasons they are both worth a look.

Sorry if this is a bit off topic from the "Last HD DVD you watched?" thread title.

One more round tonight...

12 Monkeys (1995) [27780] (USA, HD-DVD only)
=> Couldn't reach the menu after the logos (Error 405bc504)

It was a little hard to get the focus right but this how the disc looks like.
I can't clean it because it's inside the disc.

Quite happy I kept 12 Monkeys (1995) [42923]!

Clerks II (2006) [79660] (USA, HD-DVD only, 2-disc set)
=> Can't read the movie after the start menu (Error 405bc504) on Disc 1, Disc 2 seemed to start playing but no point watching the bonus of a movie you've never seen

Scorpion King, The (2002) [31304] (USA, Combo)
Was still sealed, HD-DVD played normally except around the layer change (~45mn) where I had to skip to the next chapter and rewind by ~4mn to avoid the layer zone skips that made the player drop the sound.

Another round of Obituaries.

Syriana (2005) [80792]
=> Playing dies at 6:40 (Error 405bc504)

Blood Diamond (2006) [111764]
=> Was new/sealed. Player can't even detect it's a disc and ultimately freezes on an endless loop. Must force power cycle and be a ninja to catch the half second where EJECT will respond before the disc puts the player in brain dead/panic mode.

Lethal Weapon (1987) [80080]
=> Was new/sealed. Player can't detect it as well and goes in panic mode.

Payback: Straight Up - The Director's Cut (1999) (Uncut)
[11979]

=> Hard time passing the layer change around 45:00 and ends up skipping, freezing then error code around 1:08:00

100% failure rate.

Not a good evening.

Julien

Yuck, I can't believe that they really died so fast compared to other digital media.
Wonder if this is truly the shortest lifespan of any consumer digital media.

Edit: yeah, even with all the issues Discovision is better than this.

I think even Flexidisc Technology would last longer. Even those records stamped into wax coated cereal boxes last longer. You only get like 10 plays but you can wait 50 years to play if you want. HD-DVD looks like it was designed for Maxwell Smart.
