This project has been on back burner for awhile, but finally made some progress on this. Working on a HD DVD release, fan made, will release early next year for a 10 year HD DVD anniversary edition. All going well this will be a very limited release just for fans. Title of movie has already been selected, more info to come on this release. |

Nice. I bought Bourne Ultimatum for a few bucks a few years ago and can only watch it on my mac mini with vlc and "anydvd" in the background and it looked very nice. So, when and how can we order yours? |

Last I knew OS X did have HD-DVD reading support as of 10.5, though I think it's been removed again. Not movie playing support but they would read data discs. |

Some more info on this HD DVD feature: to be clear, this is not a fan made film, but it's a real movie but fan-made adjustments in post (you'll see what I mean when you see the trailer). I intend to make no money from this but will only charge for shipping costs and if you would like to donate for the cost of the HD DVD blank (not required), which are pricey, that is fine. I have a number of them sitting in a box not doing anything so I might as well get them to some use. Along with the trailer which I'm finishing up shortly, final adjustments to color, contrast, brightness are subject to change as this will need to be viewed a few times before the final render is complete. No additional enhancements like DNR, sharpening or changes in cutting scenes from other versions will be done like the Star Wars fan made re edits. This is a basic color and contrast/brightness modification and to bring it onto HD DVD if at all possible. I haven't done the final burn and playback test yet. If that part fails I will likely just put on Blu ray, but hoping for a HD DVD project. 1st trailer which will show before and after adjustments to follow. |

I would like to find out how you burn HD-DVD discs. I have all the hardware and dozens of blanks(including DL and RW blanks) but I don't have any software to burn. From what I understand, I need to track down some older version of Roxio or something as they removed the HD-DVD functionality from their recent releases. |

Trailer is ready. I'll be doing a test burn onto HD DVD sometime this week just to see if play back works. The real difference will be the MPEG-2 final encoding which is a limitation of the software. The default is 18 mbps but I did a quick test output and it appears I can bump it up to 22 mbps and have enough space. https://youtu.be/WsDzxW0LU_8 |

Man where have I been. This is a pretty awesome project, also one of my all time favorites. Hopefully getting it onto HD DVD goes smoothly for you. |

I may have misunderstood something, but what's up with the cold colors in the trailer? I will admit though that I'm a D65 guy. Also kind of ironic to make an anniversary HD-DVD with a film owned by Sony. |

I feel like the colors in that copy are pretty cold. |

Well, the standard for color temperature in Japan is D93 so that's why. Can't see any pros over the already existing Blu-Ray but impressive work to emulate the look of an older release. |

It's pretty much standard that TV shows and broadcasts have a higher white balance but feature films can be different, at least when we're talking 00s and later. Laserdiscs and VHS however were commonly graded at D93 in Japan. For PC (sRGB) D65 is almost always used. I love the warm characteristic look of 6500K. It makes skin tones shine, gives excellent shades in highlights and has a very dreamlike look. Fires also look much more terrifying. Once you get used to it you cannot go back but it has to be seen on a professional grade1 monitor with proper calibration to really know what it's all about. I would however be very interested to see a comparison of tomastic's (impressive) work to the original BD. I think I'll watch it tonight. |
