I've never heard of this either, unless it's just data recorded on a disc, and something in 4K would have to be shorter than a film to fit on any current disc. From what I understand or heard is that 4K movies are (or at least very soon) can be purchased but is delivered on drives, similar to digital cinema. substance wrote: firefoxfritz wrote: Hi, I am collecting HD-DVDs because the price is so low in Germany. All the ~40 titles in burgudy cases I have found listed in the LDDB but now come across an 8K UHDTV DVD copy of "BARAKA". I wonder if I will ever have equipment that can display it. Can we have category 4K (2160p) and 8K (4320p) added to the category HD-DVD or somewhere, or this NON-LDDB stuff? I have two 4K discs too of perpetual "Fireplace" and "Aquarium". .... now to find a graphic-card and a monitor forthis. Anyone have ideas? Regards RRG Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra_high ... television "...4K UHDTV (2160p) has a resolution of 3840 × 2160 (8.3 megapixels), 4 times the pixels of 1080p...." " ... 8K UHDTV (4320p) has a resolution of 7680 × 4320 (33.2 megapixels), 16 times the pixels of current 1080p HDTV, which brings it closer the detail level of 15/70mm IMAX.[2][9][10] NHK advocates the 8K UHDTV format with 22.2 surround sound as Super Hi-Vision...." Do you mean 4k and 8k prerecorded media? Or someone somehow made 4k and 8k copies of those videos and burned on hddvd? There is no prerecorded 4k or 8k home media anything. All bluray and hddvd titles max out at 1080p24. You can not make any yourself either because max allowed resolution is 1080p24 by bluray specs and 1080p30 by hddvd specs. If you have 4k video you can burn on a bluray as data disc. Baraka and those demo discs use marketing terms mastered in 4k or 8k. That means video was scaled down to 1080p24 from 8k original. |

I've got a small collection of hd-dvd's myself. I just started getting in to them about 4 months ago. Curiosity was what got me going. I have a Bluray/HD-DVD LG combo drive for my PC so I'm at least able to watch and enjoy them. I've got about 15 I think. |

Since this thread is about HD-DVD collectors , I didn't want to open a separate thread. I was hoping if some one can help me and tell me which TV series/shows were released on HD -DVD because you probably can get them 10x cheaper but the show is still the same. |

Thats it? Some of these releases do not make sense. Why would you release Season 6 of Sopranos but not the first 5? I thought there were more series on the HD-DVD format. |

It never works like that. Sopranos s6 was just finished 6th season dvd came out. They released the hd dvd and bd at the same time. Same with smallville. They still have not released all seasons on these shows on bd. Smallville has season 6 to 10 and sopranos season 1 and 6 only on bd. Tv on hd formats dont sell. They dont bother |

Smallville will never have the earlier seasons released on Blu-ray. According to the show creators, since all of the special effects were rendered for standard definition, they have no plans of upscaling or redoing them for a Blu-ray release. The interest just isn't there, unlike for Star Trek The Next Generation. |

it might sound stupid, but they can release it in SD on Bluray discs , they can benefit of the huge size by making the whole series fit on maybe 3 discs than 10 for example |

I mainly collect HD-DVD's due to their low cost. I have 26 movies on HD-DVD so far with an additional 3 "bad" discs. The "bad" discs are "Santana, Live at Montreux", "Purple Rain" and "300". The Santana disc is not recognized by the player. The Purple Rain disc freezes at about 16 minutes into the film. The 300 is a HD-DVD/DVD combo. Its DVD side plays, but not the HD_DVD side. The percentage of bad to good discs seems to be about 11% or you have a 1 in 9 chance of getting a bad disc when you buy them based on my experience. (My player is a Toshiba HD-A3 running 4.0 firmware). |

All the HD DVDs says that you should connect online to download extra connect. Is that content still online to be downloaded? How much do you pay for HD DVD? I paid $3 per disc, is this a lot? |

Last time I tried to access the extra content of the "Freedom" discs online, it did not work anymore. It did work when the discs were relatively new at some point though... |

The Bourne Identity on HD DVD is kind of what The Indpendence Day on Laserdisc is - an item owned by almost everybody owning an LD or HD DVD player. Practically everyone has them. Believe me, it will never increase in value |

Bourne identiy, king kong, and 1 or 3 other titles (depends on machine) were given free along with each hd-dvd player and xbox add on. There are so many of them. I give them away free as no one will pay for them. |
