Post subject:  Extra discs like crazy

So, I have about 250 HD-DVDs right now, mostly purchased as lots. In those transactions, I have many multiples of discs to get movies I am interested in at a lower price than just buying the discs individually. Seeing as the resale for the discs isn't great since many are unopened common discs, I have just held on to them. I have probably 100 additional duplicates.

Anyone in a similar boat? I Haven't checked in a while, but seem recall Having something like 10 copies of King Kong, which is probably 9-10 to many.

Hello!

I don't have so many duplicates but... I have a lot of Warner USA releases that will all eventually die over time (and some Universal ones as well).

I still have to motivate myself to spend a whole week-end going through them one by one but the pile of "unreadable or layer change permanent crash" is steadily growing up. Latest additions were: Game, The (1997) [61027914], Face/Off (1997) [12327], Batman Begins (2005) [80924], Mummy, The (1999) [30031], Matrix: Ultimate Collection [---], Harry Potter: Giftset (2007) [???] and Planet Earth: The Complete Series (2006) [E2939].

To quote a contemporary philosopher: SAD!

Now, it saddens me to just throw away the whole disc+holder.

=> Would anyone be interested in a lot of HDDVD empty covers or even dead discs?

Julien

I find most of my WBs are toast. I have about 3 copies of Casablanca and all are unreadable. Sigh. That being said, I have had some good luck cycling through various players, as one of my three tends to be better at reading discs. Probably the BH200 is best overall for sketchy discs, but the others are not bad.

Also thinking about, I would be open to trading discs I have functional extras of. If anyone is interested, let me know. I would think the rules would be exchange for the cost of shipping only and discs must be checked as functional unless new in the wrapper. Crazy to think but I have a couple dozen unopened discs.

Just counted and I have 147, (87 separate titles) extra discs, with many of the same duplicated. If anyone is interested I can post a list.

The most of a single discs I have are:
9x King Kong
9x Transformers
5x Batman Begins
5x Breach
5x Ray

Why not try to sell the HD-DVD's as drink coasters? (LOL).

Having just picked up 70+ hddvds without cases, I put my dead copy's cases to use. Which brings up the fact that shipping said hddvds would be a lot cheaper without the cases. I'm all about saving money, I like the idea of trading, for me, this could work.

But that said, it does seem like most of us with large collections already have most of the common titles and are looking for the same less common ones.

Seems like the best thing would be is to make clocks with the discs.
If you have a part time job this could be a new business venture, even could get you on sharktank.

The thing that makes me mad is people actually selling defective discs regardless of the format.
I see people offering laserdiscs garantueed to be rotted online, same with hddvd....
When I sold my personal hddvd equipment and discs I threw in almost every disc for free.
The working ones ( at that time) I sold for 1 euro :o

I agree, but at the same time, there are holes in my collection of common titles and at this point it is either buy them for $4+shipping or trade for them. Buying them individually is risky given the high occurrence of rotters.

Either way, I will put together a list and post it. If anyone wants to trade, let me know what titles and I can check them out.

Sorry to bring up this old topic, but wasn't King Kong one of the movies included with the Toshiba HD DVD players?
That explains why so many collectors have dublicates of that.

Regarding dublicates, I rarely buy lots, simply because in most lots I already have most of the titles so it would be too many dublicates to try to sell, and other collectors probably have them already as well.

I would only buy a lot if there is something rare included that would cost more alone.

I just wait.. and wait.. and wait.. untill I find a good deal.
Sometimes I wait for years.
