For me Ive noticed so many of the earlier releases, in terms of when the film was made, not when it came out on laserdisc... is good quality....the boxset of Jason and the Argonauts is great quality, although the films age lets it down....alot of films released in the time between 1989-1995 all suffer from poor DNR applied,to where it actually makes the films look worse with smearing and other sorts of digital playing.....but the films released all before this was commonplace is actually quite better, its just the age of technology at the time wasnt that great to make the films look better....Snow White and the Seven Dwarves has a very good transfer, just a cartoon tho,but shows the film alot closer to the theatrical version than the recent releases......
Rush Hour is a great one The Thomas Crown Affair 1998 is superb Frenck Kiss Babys Day Out
One of the worst Ive noticed is Basic Instinct......Side A has a great transfer with strong colours, but Side B is disgraceful with weak blacks and washed out colour.....almost like its the original work print placed on instead.....

I'm watching this now and am very impressed with the image. It is great for an older pressing (1991).

I'm not that much into mainstream films (especially not on LD, since I have most of them on DVD/Blu-Ray), but some of the finest LD releases quality-wise (also in comparison to the same titles' presentations on other formats) for me are: Tombs of the Blind Dead (La Noche del Terror Ciego) (1971) (Uncut) [EE8662]Elite Entertainment, USA Superb quality presentation of this classy Spanish horror film, absolutely on par with the later DVD from Blue Underground (which was great as well, but not as great) Phantasm: Widescreen Collector's Edition (1979) [ID3396SU]Image Entertainment, USA Still the best-looking (and sounding) version of the film ever, IMHO Hellraiser 4: Bloodline (1996) (Uncut) [NF 25101-LD]Astro Records & Filmworks, Germany Stunning transfer for the 4th Hellraiser installment Dagora the Space Monster ((Uchu daikaijû Dogora)) (1964) [TLL 2427]Toho Video, Japan BEAUTIFUL print of this rarely seen Japanese monster film on LD, blows the Tokyo Shock DVD of the same title out of the water IMHO. Many Japanese special effects films from the Showa era (1954-1975) look stunning on laser. Chuushingura gaiden: Yotsuya kaidan (Crest of Betrayal) (1994) [BELL-905]Bandai/Emotion, Japan Beautifully shot film beautifully presented on laserdisc, a sharper transfer with richer colours (very important for this film) than the later Japanese DVD release (as far as I know, there exists no legit release on any format outside of Asia for this film).
