I watched Dune again the other day. I have recently seen the newer Dune. I think the 1984 version is far superior in many ways. Especially the first hour or so are near perfect. I think the only issue is the runtime. An entire hour worthy sections had to be cut in to few minutes. The new film is not bad but soulless to me. I used to think there were a couple of deficient FX scenes in the 1984 version. My recent viewing was in 4K. Those deficient FX scenes blended so well, they didn’t look any bad at all. I think all this time, less capable mediums like DVD, VHS, and LD didn’t do them justice with lack of color range and clarity. I am not old enough to have seen this film in theaters. I am sure it looked even better in 35mm.

Never had a clue Japan financed Twin Peaks-related Georgia coffee TV ads! But it was the top of the bubble around that time. They had WAY too much money to spend on stuff they fancied.
Given that Mulholland Drive was meant to be a TV pilot it was a pretty damn good one! To me it's the best film of the 21st century. It's fantastic even though I still do not fully understand it.
I also love Elephant Man (it's the only Lynch film that makes sense to me apart from A Straight Story) and Twin Peaks - Fire Walk With Me (the film). The series is fine, too, of course but I like the film better!
I haven't seen Lost Highway yet but I like that the last feature film he did was half in Polish and he had a deep affection for Poland and frequently visited the country, especially Lodz.
Sorry for my late arrival on this thread. I dug out my copy of "Blue Velvet" and watched it again in honor of Mr. Lynch's memory soon after I heard of his passing. What a sad moment for the entertainment world! He brought so much happiness to so many over the course of his career. What a tremendous talent, and a very bad loss indeed. I had not watched "Blue Velvet" for many years, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing it again, I must say. Although the entire cast was uniformly excellent, the late Dennis Hopper towered above them all! Another amazing talent who, sadly is no longer with us. What an incredibly powerful performance he gave as the menacing villain Frank Booth! What had stayed with me the most after seeing it all those years ago were the two scenes in which the Roy Orbison song "In Dreams" was used. It's my very favorite Roy Orbison song. I absolutely love it, despite the fact that he did it three years before I was born! It's a song I never tire of hearing, absolutely hauntingly beautiful. I love the bizarre way that Mr. Lynch chose to use it in the film. The first scene, when Dean Stockwell (as Ben) lip-synchs the song before Kyle MacLachlan (as Jeffrey) and the gang in his apartment is absolutely unforgettable! The following scene, in which Frank and the gang take Jeffrey "on a joy ride" and beat the hell out of him while "In Dreams" is playing in the background is equally unforgettable. This scene has one of my favorite lines by Dennis Hopper in it, as he shouts to Kyle MacLachlan, "If you receive a love letter from me, you're f***ed forever!" I also love the way this scene ends, with the cut from Kyle MacLachlan's bloodied face to the gas flame igniting and the fading sound of Roy Orbison's voice trailing off in a haunting echo. What a strangely beautiful film! R.I.P David Lynch!
