No I don't pause at all. I play both at the same time in sync and switch between sources. CGI effect scenes are cropped from top and bottom to fit on 1.78:1 aspect ratio on DVDs. CGI scenes were done in 4:3 and 480i resolution. The rest of the footage was shot in 1.78:1 on 35mm. They were broadcast in matted 1.33:1. The director wanted to make B5 future proof by shooting in 1.78:1 so once widescreen tvs are widely available, they could re-do CGI footage in 16:9 possibly in HD resolutions(thinking cgi effects would be relatively cheap to then).
Instead of re-doing CGi effects WB cropped the sd cgi content. thats why they look real bad on dvds.given its reduced popularity and re-doing CGi still not cheap(or cheap enough), it is safe to say B5 won't get blu-ray release anytime soon if not ever. I think LD editions are the ultimate way of watching them. Pity they didn't release all episodes on LD.

I was going to guess 2001 too, mainly because I just bought a copy on eBay for Cheap a couple days ago and the red bar at the bottom kind of gave it away.

Just curious, what are your complaints about the DVD releases of Babylon 5? I know collecting Star Trek is just plain crazy for LD. There's a few box sets on eBay but their in the range of buying a MUSE player instead. Easier to just get DVD or wait for all the Blu-rays to be released.

I compared them on LDs better than DVDs thread. You can buy Star Trek US pressings for $5-7 per 2 episodes(1 disc). I compiled my near complete set for $180 or less. There was a complete set went for $270 shipped(super mint cond) not so long ago. You are talking about the Japanese boxsets. Those are very expensive I agree. I don't know if ever anyone buys those. They are half a season sets. You need 14 sets for complete TNG. They are asking on average $350 a piece, you do the math for a full set. If you want DS9 or Voyager they are even higher prices and similar number of volumes. On a good setup TNG,B5, DS9 looks super good. I am expecting X-files seasons in the next few days. Once I got those, I will compare them to Dvds.

I had almost bought 10 or 12 of them for $140 on ebay then I found a local listing on craiglist for complete set of 31 in plastic protective sleeves for $99. Keep looking you will find a set sooner or later. The same seller had star trek worf collection, q collection, borg collection in super mint condition for $3 a piece. I used to treat my star wars sets as holy grail now these star trek sets and b5 far surpass them(eventho I have near complete ds9 and tng us releases). I am looking to find the captains collection for a decent price to compelete the set. I also want to see a voyager episode on LD without buying the super expensive Japanese boxsets(captains collection have the pilot of all 4 series).
Yazorin you are in CT. I bet you are a couple of hours away from me. I decided to shrink my LD collection to some TV episodes, some anime, some cartoon, and star wars sets. I will let go the rest for dirt cheap like $1 to $5 a piece(more so close to $1), let me know if you want to take a look at my list. I will email it to you. Its like 400 or so LDs, some HK, few japanese, some sealed, a lot of music etc..

im actually alot like you lol im more interested in collecting tv shows rather than movies so i dont think I'd be interested in buying too many movies from you. im actually eyeing that captains collection box set myself i intend to take the voyager disc right out of it and put it in a plain white jacket and put it with my tng tos and soon to come ds9 sets lol ill probably sell the rest of that box set for 5$ on ebay

ok now i have some questions about these discs.. i was watching some B5 tonight when i noticed something weird.. the LDDB lists season 2 as 2.1 "points of departure/revelations" and continues from there. But MY discs are different i have the same disc but it says "2.0" does anyone else have their first season 2 disc like that? Also, I noticed on the LDDB that the release dates are totally random! Aparantly they started with 1.2 1.3 then 1.1 then 5.1???? wtf?

Season 2 starts with 2.0 and goes from there. It skips 1 disc(cant remember which) then continues for 3-4 discs. They released first half of season 1 and 5 first. Then second halfs. Next year they released first halfs of season 2 and 4. Ld was shot to death by dvd around this time so they never bothered with the rest. The original plan was to release rest of season 2 and 4. Next year release season 3 to complete the set.
You watch season 1 on ld then start season 2 on ld keep season 2 dvd disc 2 in dvd player.once you run out of ld episodes switch tv to dvd. Do the same for season 4. Watch entire season 5 in ld. Movies are only on dvd except the gathering.

If you turn off tvs sharpness on dvds and set your tvs/ld players comb filter to max for checkboard artfacts. Combine with poor deinterlacing(set your scaler to forced 2:2) you will have uniform picture quality lol

it looks like the same ones that were released on LD were released on VHS. I'm surprised they didn't atleast continue doing the VHS tapes..
