I just won the FS last pressing of this for $10.50. Some said that this title is rare. I was curious how did they make 2 seperate prints one in scope & the other FS & that this was never released in any other format than laserdisc?

Because it's animation, it is much simpler to photograph the same art in two aspect ratios than, for example, to stage Oklahoma! twice, once for 35mm scope ratio & once for Todd-AO 70mm 30fps. I don't know the details, but I would imagine they used two cameras, independently operated, on the same animation stand.

They most likely just re-shot the film regrouping the cels into the shot as necessary.

Another example of a differently shot AR film is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. They shot a CinemaScope version and matted widescreen version (1.85:1) at the same time (camera's side by side.) So the different of the film are at slightly different angles.

This DVD Beaver review gives you an idea of the difference between the CS and NA versions (though the DVD NA version is cropped slightly differently.)

Also I've heard that that Academy Ratio version of Lady and the Tramp was also released on VHS the same year the LD was released. Though I can't say for sure as I don't have the VHS.
