Add to the list: The Palm Beach Story The Lady Eve and that's it. They actually are Encore Series titles in that they were prepared by the same team and all have Theatrical Trailers with them. There were a lot of titles released on VHS of the Gene Shalit series and I think these were the most popular ones so they tried to keep the name to increase sales. In 1985/86 MCA released one Encore title per month. In 1987 they alternated months with the Gene Shalit's. After these 8 titles they only released their classic films in the Encore series and the ones they repressed, (Wolfman, Touch of Evil, ect..) were re-released under the Encore banner. Ron |

Ron Great information. Thanks Ron. I have seen some VHS releases. But not all of the VHS versions were done in Laserdisc. |

Most were eventually done but released as Encore titles. A few, like The Ipcress File were never released on laserdisc at all. Ron |

So The Invisible Man (Critic's Choice version) is a completely different cover using the same number on the spine. Shouldn't there be a separate entry in the LDDb? |

Jumping on my own dead thread. Yes, I am still working on this collection. What is puzzling is the Barcode number. Entry for Wolf Man, The (1941) [40031] at LDDb has 025192400315. My copy does not have the 5 at the end. Same with Lady Eve, The (1941) [40353]. LDDb has 025192403538 for a Barcode number. My copy has no 8 at the end. So my question is where is the extra digit coming from. Are there copies out there that have the full Barcode number listed on LDDb? |

So my question is where is the extra digit coming from. Are there copies out there that have the full Barcode number listed on LDDb? It's a check digit. It's calculated from the preceding 11 digits. So, although on early barcodes it wasn't actually present, its value is known. LDDb is set up to accept, I think, barcodes which are one digit short, but they may be displayed with the check digit, due to the way the 'barcode generator' application works. Either that or a later reissue with the same UPC had the check digit. |

publius, Thanks for the info. I thought something wasn't right. I submitted The Invisible Man to the LDDb and the pending submission says the barcode string is too short. The reprint Encore edition has a barcode of 025192230073. My Gene Shalit version has 02519223007. Can we assume the Shalit version has the 3 at the end? Here is my submission: http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/submit/50 ... %281987%29 |

Ratkins, Ipcress File was released on LD Ipcress File, The (1965) [RGL9642] It's pretty rare, though. One of the few Roans I don't own. |

Probably still there, but it was going for $70 which is too much for my blood. |

Ratkins- You collect all the Roans? |
