As mentioned/referenced in this article and other places, The Matrix was released on a limited run on LD. Many have said that the 5.1 on the LD is more dynamic than the 5.1 on the initial DVD. That 1999 DVD is the only version I care to watch as all of the others had the color changed to "match" the green tinting of the sequels. Now I've found some info saying that the 1999 DVD had some color and shots tweaked and that only the LD reflects the original theatrical presentation. Can anybody shed some light on this? I didn't think the LD was different, especially the sound being at the same DD 384 kbp/s bitrate as the '99 DVD.

As far as I know only the LD and a Region 4 Australian DVD release have the original, theatrical, untinted version of the film. I own the laserdisc but it's been years since I've seen it on another format so I can't really comment on how noticeable a change it is.

I took a few screen captures of off the CRT with my digital camera as I don’t have bluray pc drive to take direct ones from, only have DVD pc drive for captures but the DVD is better than the special edition the contrast levels have been raised up on Special edition DVD that was same used for the HD-DVD to bluray talk about going cheap!

Know the scene where Neo jumps backwards out of the way of the oncoming subway train! Look at the lights on the train on DVD nice and clear you can see the detail same with Laserdic. Look at the special edition DVD to HD-DVD and bluray that is totally rubbish and I never play that version it sticks for 1080p HD! All the detail around the lights is lost, yeah some cool video engineers they have working in the mastering, idiots! I still have the Laserdisc and I will not sale it.
