Post subject:  Jap. Executive Decision vs US Executive Decision - Uncut????

How is the Japanese version compared to US edition?
Both discs have the 133min playback time.

The US version is uncut with some extra scenes.
The opening contains some extra violent shots of Steven Segal killing 3 guards with a knife.
Is the Japanese the same uncut version???

The DVD and BD seem to have a trimmed version missing the fanatic scenes from hijackers?

Apparently there are cuts in the blu-ray and DVD that were retained on the laserdisc. To quote:

"It would appear that Warner Bros have sourced a re-edited version of the film for its Blu-ray release. Furthermore, the cuts have not been made to scenes of violence or to material that may be in breach of copyright, but specifically those featuring the Quran. It should also be noted that these are not recent cuts driven by post 9/11 sensibilities, but first appeared in the 1999 European DVD release. This version was released to all countries within the region2 territories. To further confuse matters, the UK DVD release had additional cuts made to remove Steven Seagal’s knife work, at the beginning of the film. These were made by the BBFC simply to obtain a lower rating.

So what exactly has been removed? From discussions held on the Blu-ray.com forum, it would appear than changes have been made to the following scenes. At 10:38, the scene in which the suicide bomber enters the London restaurant has had shots of him holding the Quran aloft removed. Then at 1:04:50 when David Suchet is talking to Halle Berry, similar material has been deleted. This includes him holding and leafing through the holy book. Finally between 1:37:04 to 1:37:11, shots of David Suchet praying are missing. The removed scene also shows the Quran on top of the radio equipment, next to him."
