I like surfing documentaries and I'm trying to put together a list of releases on LD. Does anyone see a title missing?
Bali High
Big Wave
Blazing Boards
Chrystal Eyes
Endless Summer
Endless Summer 2
Follow the Sun
Follow the Sun 2
Free Ride
How Zit Bradda
Rolling Thunder
Surfer Magazine
Tubular Swells
Wave of the Future
Not a subject on DiscoVision even though "Skateboarding" was. Not a documentary, but the movie Surf Ninjas was funny...
Hi hawkwind,
I'm not sure whether you wanted to include Japanese imports on your list or not. In the event that you do, have you considered "Wet Lips" (TE-D039)? It's a title that was not released in the U.S. I was fortunate enough to stumble upon a copy of it a number of years ago. I wasn't even sure exactly what it was at the time, but I just picked it up anyway, which I do on occasion when I think something might be rare and/or unusual. That certainly was the case with that particular piece! It turned out to be a short documentary on surfing. The cover picture on the LDDb listing page is from my copy, which oddly enough is a sample copy. I didn't notice this at the time I got it. I only discovered it after Julien had a discussion here about Japanese sample copies, and I spotted the small red label with the three sample Kanji characters in the upper right corner of the jacket. This does seem to be a pretty rare title, as I have never seen another copy of it in the years that have passed since I got it. Anyway, if you want to include Japanese releases, you might want to add that one to your list.

Actually, Except for Endless Summer, ES 2 and Surfer Magazine all the other titles are Japanese imports. I have most, but not all of what is on my list. Thanks a lot for "Wet Lips". I'll keep a lookout for that one...

"Ok Hawkwind.... You struck a cord. Rolling Thunder is an ultimate fav of mine. Also, being a huge fan of Dick Dale, the surfing genre rocks imo !
Thanks for the thread man !"
Yep! Rolling Thunder is a great film. The Soundtrack really grows on you with multiple playings. Just bought a copy of Back to the Beach. Dick Dale does "Pipeline" in it...
Thanks for the replies, everybody...

Well, I'm also a communications buff and there is footage of the very first professional surfer, Corky Carroll wearing a wireless microphone while surfing . Thought that was cool...

Hi, I digitally archive old surf films to save them from being lost and forgotten. I had never heard of How Zit Bradda & Wet Lips until I found this website and thread. I’ve managed to source a copy of How Zit Bradda and archive it. And I’ve now managed to source a VHS copy of Wet Lips too. Although I’ve not yet received the tape so can’t tell if it’s in a playable condition.
Is there any way to get a digital copy of your LD version of Wet Lips? So far as I know the VHS tape and your disc are the only known copies of this film. I’d be happy to pay to get a copy made if you don’t have one already and you wouldn’t mind your version being played/copied.
Thank you kimlaughton for "Adventures in Paradise". I got a copy from Good Squid, right away.
Hey surfdj, funny you should mention "How Zit Bradda!" Every Sunday I get a newsletter from, The Encyclopedia of Surfing and last weeks newsletter talked about that movie...

Hey. The magazine collector mentioned in the EOS article is me! You can check out my IG @oldsurfmagazines if it interests you.
I got in contact with this gentleman who had posted some surfing laserdiscs on YT and he also had How Zit Bradda but hadn’t posted it yet.
Here’s the link if you wanna watch it, and check out his other films. He also has Adventures In Paradise up. Another great film from that era of surfing.
Desperate to get hold of a good copy of Wet Lips still. If you (or anyone else) comes across it please message me. Hopefully LaserKing gets back to me
Thanks! How did I miss these? My twin brother is going to digitalize/upscale my surf LDs, hopefully this week. I'll post a list of titles I have soon...
