I hope thats the right thread for this.. I was ordering myself a copy of THE EXTERMINATOR On Blu-ray (UK version) and I did some research on the disc before the purchase. I knew that Synapse also released THE EXTERMINATOR on BD so I checked both discs. The funny thing is, I found out, that Synapse used a japanese LD of the movie to reconstruct the stereosound. I never heard of that before. The BD disc says DTS-HD MA 2.0, so that leaves me with the question, is the stereosound of a Laserdisc the same as a DTS-HD sound on a BD ? I mean in terms of compression etc.??? LD were so much ahead of its time, I still can´t believe it sometimes...

http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/39565/A-A ... -The-(1980) I haven't watched this fill, since early 80's around a friends on VHS. Quote: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080707/Runtime: Norway: 101 min | UK: 99 min | USA: 104 min (director's cut) | 101 min (original uncut version) Sound Mix: Stereo (Dolby Stereo) Color: Color Aspect Ratio: 1.85 : 1 See full technical specs » I wouldn't have guessed this to be Dolby Stereo? When I saw it, it was on mono VCR and TV, no doubt the tape was mono as well. The screen captures look like DNR was used. http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Exter ... ray/17817/Beaver states it as region Free and you brought a UK version? Might want to look at the region free uncut or then again it might be the same as the region free? Quote: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/blu-ray_reviews54/the_exterminator_blu-ray.htm For those you prefer the 'rustic' sound they might go for the original mono.
Well the captures look fine and I'm looking for (blue and often hot whites) to see if it really looks good, but not many in the screen captures that shows that. What is on for show looks okay a bit of grain in some captures as its 35mm film and not filmed digitally.

Have a good listen to Laserdic and bluray when you get it, let us know what its like with dialouge music and sound effects.

Wasn´t it a video nasty in the UK? mmm, lets have look now. with typed in several keywords its coming up listed in Mary Whitehouse BBFC http://support.proboards.com/index.cgi? ... ead=160690I guess so its a video nasty of the 80's. It might be considered a tender film for 15 year children in the cinema today.
