Just bought it for 105$...
Did I pay too much? I collect all releases from 1999 and 2000 and sometimes I don't understand why some of them are dirt cheap (f.e. Wild Wild West) and some are so expensive.
Does it have to do with how many copies were issued?
I saw "Out of Towners" before on ebay and I don't think it's a good movie, but never saw it at a cheap price. I notice the DVD sells for 1$ :)

Is this the same one I guess so as date brought was (Jul 21, 2012 22:25:52 PDT)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OUT-TOWNERS-199 ... 1064724500

At least the DVD is Dolby 5.1 the Laserdisc is only Dolby Surround which is strange I thought most Laserdisc from mid 90's where Dolby AC-3 5.1 encoded.

Some neat Laserdiscs for sale, got my eye on a few :shh:

Yes, that's the one.
I know some of the final LD's released by Paramount and Universal were Dolby Surround only. "Bringing out the dead", "Double Jeopardy", "Sleepy Hollow" and "General's Daughter" come to mind....

Yeah your right about the USA pressing.

General's Daughter, The (1999) [LV 329033-WS]

The Japanese pressing is Dolby AC-3 5.1. Does this have to do with plants in USA closing down and only one or few elsewhere pressing them in Dolby AC-3?

General's Daughter, The (1999) [PILF-2839]

Saw Sleepy Hollow in Dolby digital at the cinema, Christopher Walker freaked me out as the hoarseman. No listed Japanese pressing with Dolby AC-3 5.1.

Out-of-Towners, The (1999) [LV34483-WS] o.k. so it may be a rare disc, but if you didn't really care for the film why did you
pay so much?
i don't have any idea on value, but if it was a later release then it was possibly more limited.
but still why? just to have it? you could have bought the DVD for a buck like you said.

Paramount dropped AC-3 because it had to be synced by eye for LaserDisc due to the variable delay added by the QPSK encoding used to modulate it onto the analog RF LaserDisc track. That took extra time and an extra charge, which Paramount didn't want to pay, so it became standard Dolby Surround only.

Even if you paid in Hong Kong dollars, yes, way way too much. Do you at least have the (far superior) 1970 version?

Why? Seriously. I mean, you just buy whatever garbage came out of the pipe those years, no matter what it is?

Yes, I do buy everything that was released in 1999, 2000 and 2001 (Japan).
It's more a nostalgic reason that anything else. I started collecting Laserdiscs in 1991 and kept buying LD until the last releases. I missed alot of the final releases as they sold out quickly + I didn't have the cash at the time.
I didn't get into laserdisc because it was cheap. Many who collect LD now are people who just buy it because collections can be bought so cheap. In the nineties every laserdisc in Belgium sold had a price tag of at least 60$ so a disc costing 100$ is not that shocking to me :). I could afford to buy like 2 movies a month and not more...lol
It's great to see that I can buy many movies now which were unaffordable to me at the time of release, but from time to time I do buy the more expensive discs.
I do not keep them sealed or anything. I do watch them, but because I buy a lot more than I have time to watch them, it can take years before I actually see the movie :)

I've also been collecting since 1991 (maybe 92, can't remember) and I've spend over $100 per disc in some cases. These were all things I actually wanted to watch though, not just boxes to check.

I remember a headline at the end of 1999:
"Laserdisc refuses to die: Pioneer announces new titles"
Unfortunately most of these announced titles were cancelled later on in 2000 and by october the format was dead...
I also do not buy movies to keep them in pristine condition and not touch them. For me all discs are to be opened and watched even if it means the value goes down. I have sold some discs in the past, but I never buy LD's with the intention to sell them at a higher price. Very often I have thrown away the obi-strips on japanese discs, including the one on 'the sixth day', because I just don't see the use of them...lol.

I've obtained a lot of LDs lately that I have zero interest in. I bought them in large lots full of other stuff I wanted hoping I could sell the crap off or maybe just give them away. :) I've never purchased anything for the point of marking it up and selling it on though. I have a job instead.

I bought a bunch of LDs from a local add a couple of months ago. He was asking $3 a piece for everything in mint condition. This was in the lot. At the time it wasn't listed in Lddb.com, I didnt think it was a valuable title. I skipped it:) I can probably contact the seller and he probably still has it. Its some 20 miles from me. Do you think there is market for it? If I can make quick $50 for it, I will do it
