some titles include
1) the little mermaid 2) the great mouse detective 3) beauty and the beast.
just wondering. The original LaserDisc's all have the 2 channel Dolby Stereo mix, just uncompressed. The original Dolby Stereo mixes have to be heavily limited and compressed to 'fit' onto a 35mm optical stereo soundtrack. For the LaserDisc, the unlimited/uncompressed masters were used. Except for AC-3 releases there are no LaserDisc's that contain an unremixed 70mm mix and even many AC-3 releases of 70mm films are remixed since AC-3 doesn't have 5 channels in the front. The original LaserDisc release of The Little Mermaid is the best version - the AC-3 is heavily remixed and destroys much of the subtlety of the Dolby Stereo original. The Little Mermaid's original mix was almost like quadraphonic with music placed specifically in the surrounds - the AC-3 remix is like the Grease remix in that it bears almost no resemblance to the original. Sadly, the DVD used this mix too - and Disney redid it again for DVD as the Disney Home Theater Enhanced Mix, taking it even further from the original. LaserDisc is the only format you can get the original Fantasound mix of Fantasia on. The Blu-ray is a travesty in both picture and sound. I literally cried when bought the disc and watched it for the first time.

even for aladdin, jafar's voice has more bass, the dvd seems to cut it in half. (the scene where jafar is introduced) Disney has always remixed for VHS to make dialog easier to hear over tiny television speakers and to make them more mono compatible. Also, VHS Hi-Fi can only handle peaks about 9 db above reference, so the stereo mix on the VHS Hi-Fi tracks are limited and compressed to reduce the dynamic range.

1) beetlejuice--when they mixed it for ac-3, they used the mono mix! 2) little shop of horrors (1986) 3) nightmare before christmas 4) die hard Was Beetlejuice issued in AC-3 on LaserDisc? I ask because I have the original DVD issue and it's a discrete stereo version of the Dolby Stereo soundtrack. I have the DTS LaserDisc of Nightmare and it matches the DVD and Blu-ray releases in all major respects. I have the recalled DVD of Little Shop too and it matches what I remember hearing when I saw it in 70mm. The changes to Die Hard haven't been major enough to bother me much. Stargate on AC-3 LaserDisc was THX' first major stumble when it was found the Dolby Surround mix on the digital tracks was out of phase, so all dialog came from the surrounds. So much for their careful quality control!

(left channel on both) i find the little shop of horrors dvd to be a really good 5.1 mix The Little Shop 5.1 mix is superb. It's done so well it could stand alone as a DVD-Audio music only disc.
