so i just picked up volume 1 of the Twilight zone and I want an outer sleeve for it. I have a few sleeves meant for box sets that are nice and thick but they only fit the smaller kind of boxes. I've looked on ebay but no one there is selling box set sleeves at all. Bags unlimited seams to sell them but there only 2 mil and I doubt they fit a larger set anyway. I'd really like to protect my twilight zone set, it's already starting to split a tiny bit.

I have some of those larger bags from Bagsunlimited on the way. I'll let you know what they fit. I'm not sure if anyone made something large enough for the big 10-14 disc sets though.

you have to get a larger bag and a hot soldiering iron or hot knife and melt it to the size you need.

i have lots of japanese box sets that take 10 discs and need special bags that i had to make.

I tape 1-4 of the japanese plastic sleeves and make one big one.

so you basically melt it a bit and then stretch it? i would think that the only way it would work would be to put it on an object the exact same shape as the box set while it's still all melty

no stretching.
i'll try to post some pictures.
you get the larger bag, put the box inside, fold the top over to mark where you want it.
take the box out, put a metal ruler on the line and run the hot knife or soldering iron along the
ruler and it will cut and seal at the same time.

it should work with all but i know it will work on the bags unlimited type.

I assume you are looking at the 14x14.25? That's the same size I ordered from Bags Unlimited. They are back ordered right now though so I won't have them for a week or two. I imagine they will fit some of my stuff, like the Bandai Visual 3xLD sets, but probably not the Zeta Gundam half boxes and certainly nothing larger.

I visited my local £1 store and found they were selling little lunch bags that were ideal for 8" LDs - almost made for them. You could buy a pack of about 50 for £1! I didn't even bother to check what other goodies they had but I'm sure there were other larger clear plastic bags that could be cut down to size quickly. Also they stocked inexpensive large plastic boxes (crates) that would be ideal for storing laserdiscs that you have maybe no shelf space for. Could be used for boxsets as well as some had lids to keep the dust out.

OK, after quite a bit of delay I got these bags. They are this exact thing: http://www.bagsunlimited.com/p-3442-box ... -flap.aspx

What they will fit, based on my experimentation:

Royal Space Force Memorial Box
Galaxy Express 999: Galaxy Box
Macross: DYRL Perfect Edition
Aim for the Top!: Gunbuster box
Brazil (Criterion CAV)
Star Trek (the box with movies I-V but not VI)
The biggest baddest Tenchi Muyo in Love box, the AC-3 one with the gold disk. This is a perfect fit, but nothing larger will fit in one of these bags.
Aliens CAV special edition

What won't fit:

Schindler's List (not even close)
Amadeus: Pioneer Special Edition
Z Gundam
Green Legend Ran

Hopefully if you have at least one of these titles you can figure out if they do what you need them to do. Basically, if its a tight fitting box you might fit a 6LD set in one.

Overall I really like these bags, but obviously I need a bigger size as well since there are dozens of Japanese sets these won't fit.

I haven't got any LD box sets, but what I did for some of my vinyl box sets, is use one of those cheaper vacum bag sealing machines that has the heat wire in it. I found mine at a thrift store for only 5.00 price. I cut the regular record bags open and heat seal 2 or 3 of them together to make a larger bag, and you can use whatever thickness of plastic you like. Works really good too.

For 8" LD you can just heat seal a 12" size bag down smaller.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll end up doing this. There are many LD boxes out there that are so unique in their form factor (ie: Fantasia CAV) that I'll never find a bag that fits perfectly.

Diskeeper™ Ultimate Box Set Outer Sleeve

Sleeve City

these are 13.75 x 13.75 2.5 mil

25@7.50
50@12.75

Why manufacture your own when they're cheap to buy?

Well I got some like those from a ebay seller. Mine measure 14" x14" and have a extra 1.5" flap beyond that folds over. So those ones are probably the same. Even though the 2.5 mil is ok, it's more thinner then I would like. Checking mine I can fit 6 single jacket LD's inside one just to give you an idea. So if your box set is thicker then 6 LD's stacked, the sleeve won't fit.

Because those aren't even close to big enough for many LD box sets. The ones I bought were 14x14 and, like I said, there is all that stuff that won't fit. Stuff like the double boxed Gundam and ZZ Gundam aren't even in the ballpark. Those things are HUGE. There are many Japanese box sets that are 4-5 inches thick. These bags will do maybe 1 1/2" thick.
