Thanks to the extra info. about the big THX sticker on the shrink wrap i found one & asked the seller for the numbers on the disc they match closely the Pioneer numbers that someone added to the listing here. It is hard enough to find one with shrink wrap let alone someone to email back the numbers.

My slightly speckling Sony DADC pressing has the big THX sticker on the shrink wrap too - what are the other outward signs of the Pioneer re-pressing?

I see you just want to get hold of fair decent good pressing.

I just read up and mine doesn't have any THX sticker has it was removed with the shrink-warping with the original owner as I bought mine S/H from a shop years ago.

Side 3 has the rot sparkles only small not heavy yet. LDTA-003538-A-A57. The blank side is Blank Side LDDN-000001-2-2297. Stamp mark 23070000.

Disc 1 side A/B are Side A... LTDA-003537-A-A56 the label is covering most of the mint mark stamp so I can only make out a few numbers.32 impossible not without peeling back the label, sigh.

Side B...LDTA-DO3537-B-B20 can you believe the stamped the mint mark right across LDTA numbers it makes it hard to read! (130700') that is what I can see! :wtf: This was a rushed job no doubt.

I will take a chance that this one is pressed by Pioneer because on most columbias if you want it on laserdisc you have to get the japan import which i have with Heavy Metal & Wild Things.

Are you saying the two discs where pressed at different plants sorry I don't follow what you mean?

I'll keep an eye out for the Japanese pressing when one shows up at cheap price.

The film was pressed by Sony DADC and then by Pioneer America - the Pioneer is the good pressing.

The Japanese pressing is also good. Most of the Sony pressings are rotted, which yours is.

I want to know if there is a way to identify the Pioneer pressing by the jacket alone. I have the Sony pressing and it has mild speckling when played on the EAD TheaterVision player - on the Panasonic LX-900 the speckling is much less noticeable. The digital sound and AC-3 are fine on both players.

Right I'm starting to follow what you mean. so it won't have much affect on the AC-3 coding with mild sparkles of rot is that what you mean? Until it reaches a higher rot level where the AC-3 coding will be lost along with the picture?

Yes, that's usually the case - and not all discs, not even Sony, go to full unwatchable rot - some stay mild. My MIB pressing has been like this for years.
