In promotion for the new HBO film about her, Hitch and The Birds, keeping in mind very few are left to contradict, Tippi Hedren went on the offensive about her treatment from Hitch and the terrible things she had to suffer while filming The Birds.
She states Hitch sexually harrassed her, made her perform under duress on The Birds, and ruined her career because she spurned his advances, but didn't ruin her life (her own words). Hmmm.
It's pretty common knowledge that Hitch liked the cool, Nordic blonde ladies, and I wouldn't be surprised if he made advances that would be considered sexual harrasment in today's world. He was looking for someone like Grace Kelly when he found Hedren in a commercial. He signed her to a seven year contract and made two films with her.
Hedren claims Hitch would not allow her to take roles on other worthwhile productions while under contract to him as some sort of retribution. Yet she did have roles in four other studio works during that time. While under contract, she was paid whether or not Hitch wanted to use her, as was his perogative in the agreement. Of course, she was much busier after the contract with Hitch was over. Not only busier but for quite a long time as well.
I wouldn't say Hitch ruined her career, even if he did derail it for some time. In fact, I'd say she'd have had a much lesser career if he had not taken her out of commercials to The Birds, as she really wasn't much more than an average actress when considering her amongst her peers. I'm not too much of a fan of tattletale promotions like this, especially coming nearly 50 years after the fact.

Tippi Hedren http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001335/The Birds was on late night TV one of the digital channels a couple weeks ago, I watched a little bit of it on the Sony flat screen that I mostly use as pc monitor. I've seen the film twice before in the past and remember reading I'm not sure if it was on a trailer: "it will make you want to kick a pigeon"! has there are hundreds of them in the town. I can see the blonde connection now Kim Novak blonde, barbara bel geddes blonde, yeah maybe Hitch was hitched on about blondes. Just watched this fan trailer. Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds (1963) new Movie Trailer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PhmYfBK13MRemember that strange incident in Arkansas 2011 birds all of suddenly falling from the sky? Very strange and I wonder if its still unsolved? Is it possible birds might bring an end of the world that was one of the quotes in the film.

Birds are like cockroaches and rats, they will be around even if humans aren't.
Birds are the evolutionary apex (to date) of dinosaurs. Imagine a world where there was no sort of large creature flying around in the skies (you see, insects did) and none of that chirp and chatter every morning. That's what it was like for most of the millions of years that dinosaurs rumbled around.
Must have been peaceful in some ways, with no crap falling from the sky. You said it! pigeons are rats with wings and I had to open a window to get the noisy hooting bugger to fly off as its sitting outside behind the bathroom window under the roof in drain gutter making a nest and just hoots every morning then I see it on the roof humping another pigeon to produce more rats with wings. I've been inside a few derelict cinemas over the past many yesteryears ago... and all I saw was...."I see dead pigeons" feathers everywhere and pigeon sh"t all over the seats. So if you want to show The Birds look for derelict cinema break in and set up a video projector with some friends and play The Birds.
