This is a title I would love to own. But, I have noticed it goes for quite a large sum when it shows up. I have seen a range from 40 - 200 bucks. I didn't realize this was a rare title. I would rather not stoop and get the P&S version. Does anyone own this and could tell me if they enjoy their copy? Or maybe fill me in on if inexpensive copies every show up?

One of the suppliers I get mine from has it priced surprising high! Often Laserdisc are around or under £10.00 with small p+p. I can't afford this not this week or week after or next month I'm saving up to get something special, you buy it. :)

As much as I would love to buy that copy, it is pretty well out of my price range for that title. I would hope to pay 30 bucks or less for it.

if you need AC-3 then that's the way to go, but they did release a Japanese LD in CAV and widescreen.
Last Starfighter, The (1984) [G128F0083]
i don't have either, but if you want it on LD there is another option

I appreciate the help. Still have yet to see a japanese laserdisc. Are the subtitles pretty distracting? That's the only thing keeping me from buying one.

I have the Frighteners collection and if it is anything like that save up your money as it is amazing. Most of the Signature stuff I have seen is top notch. Like comparing gold to tin.

i'm not bothered by the subtitles, on this title it says they are in the black.

but like mikey sez, you will get extras, so it all depends on if you just want to own the film
on LD in widescreen OR if you need to have the extras, no subtitles etc.

Get some black cloth or black card and blu tack or use sticky tape to hold it against the screen that way it will mask off the bottom portion of the frame ad you won't be distracted by the subtitles! ;)

The last star fighter Signature collectors

I purchased this brand new it is a great good movie and the LD transfer is one of the better ones.

You don't get many of these feel good scifi movies nowa days THE EXPLORERS, FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR & BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED being three other good examples.

Regards

Explorers is a total classic. Grew up watching that one.

I own a few other of the Signature ones: The Mummy, Field of Dreams, Liar Liar, etc... and really enjoy all of them. I am sure if I am patient enough I can come across a decently priced copy eventually.

Yes, I am a huge blu-ray fan. I enjoy blu-ray most for modern cinema. If a film has been released on a Letterboxed LD, I would much rather see it on that than a Blu-Ray. I want the original pops, crackles and film-like image.

Just watched Last Starfighter, The (1984) [40078] the other day. The picture quality was pretty terrible. Audio was "ok." I would love to get the signature edition but damn, that's expensive.

The HD-DVD of The Last Starfighter is beautiful with no obvious edge enhancement or DNR. Plus it has all the special features from the Signature LaserDisc set. The digital test from Star Wars is amazing looking.

How does screen capturing fair up against the Signature Laserdisc vs DVD vs HD-DVD vs Bluray? I've only ever seen it in fall on VHS panned and scanned years ago in the mid/late 80's on Hi-Fi stereo VHS. and maybe once in small bits on TV again panned and scanned.

The Beaver hasn't done a good examination I'm a little uncertain with the bluray, myself, the blu captures look a bit dodgy.

Maybe I'll just take your word and get the HD-DVD or keep a look-out for the Signature Collection.

Ended up buying this title. I just really enjoy the older WS titles because of the grain, oddly enough. So, I shelled out the money for my first Japanese LD.

let us know what you think of it!

i only remember reading a review of it, since it was in CAV you could see the filp of images from the
wallet and they reused the pictures a few times, but at the time you could only see it with CAV.

The Signature Collection has no reports. Plus its Dolby Digital AC-3 where the Japan one is Dolby Stereo matrix.

yeah, but the person selling it should know if it's rotted or not.

Bollocks! They'd sale their mother cheap on eBay. I had one laserdisc that had bad rot on side 1 of The Jewel In Nile and not a word was mentioned about mild laser-rot on the eBay sale of side 1 towards the end. Side 2 is okay.
