yeah, but the person selling it should know if it's rotted or not.

Bollocks! They'd sale their mother cheap on eBay. I had one laserdisc that had bad rot on side 1 of The Jewel In Nile and not a word was mentioned about mild laser-rot on the eBay sale of side 1 towards the end. Side 2 is okay.

 yes but i think the Japanese last starfigher was on here.
so that's why i said they should know.

Actually, this guy is great seller with good communication. He sent very detailed pictures of it to me and gave me his word that he inspected the disc very carefully for signs of rot. Can't wait to receive it! For an Japanese disc from the 80's, it doesn't look too bad I would say...

(broken links removed)

Also, on the subject of Jewel of the Nile. I coincidentally saw that yesterday for the first time, and hated it! Nowhere near as food as Romancing the Stone...

Just received my copy of the Japanese pressing the Last Starfighter today! The cover is great looking, and the gatefold is an added plus. The letterbox transfer is slightly shifted up for subtitles, which I have never seen before, but I think it makes it a unique viewing experience.

Here's a photo

i had Forbidden Planet (1956) [G128F5517] and it was up so the subtitles didn't get in the way of the image.

it was something that the earlier pressed Japanese LDs had, i think i had another one like that but can't
remember what it was.

I think it is pretty neat. What are some of the other Japanese pressings with that, that you know of? I would like to own a few others.

that's the only one i can think of, i really can't think of any others right now, but i do believe i had another?
the only problem with that forbidden planet is the picture quality is sort of dull, and not super clear.
the criterion release is so much better.

Yeah, this copy of Last Starfighter is definitely on the dull side. But, I find that the more dull or grainy qualities of a letterboxed LD give it a certain kind of charm.

Then again... I might just be crazy.
