Good afternoon Guys,

I want to purchase the Blu-Ray box set's of Star Trek next generation.
On Blu-Ray. com is describes the box set as being region free however, when I go to purchase this through the Amazon site the details say that it's region A

Does anyone know the correct details as, any help would be deeply appreciated.

Thank you for your time with any replies.

Sincere Regards

I believe it is region free because when the disc loads you have to select your language and there's about a dozen or more. There is also a major audio defect on the disc on the original season 1 release that they are replacing discs 1,3,4 and 5 but only to US residents at this time.

I posted some pics of season 1 here. There's comparison shots as well as information on how to get your discs replaced.

Afternoon from the UK tomtastic,

Thank you so much for your reply.

Yes I had read somewhere about the audio faults on the first season.
I am now wondering when all of the old stock will be clear before purchasing this.

I have been waiting for the Star Trek T.N.G to be in Hi-def ever since getting into Home theatre in April 1998.
DVD box sets were so expensive, and thought then that I would wait.

Sound problems on the first box set isn't good and doesn't inspire confidence to purchase.

Now I don't know what to do.......................

Thank you anyway...

Regards

I know, I'm wondering how much this will effect potential buyers like you from holding off until they're all gone. I haven't read anywhere how many they had produced with the faulty audio. It has to be a major blow and a pricey replacement plan effecting all but 2 discs. I'll bet they don't make this mistake again.

Actually I was just reading on Blu-ray.com that the corrected version has the Star Fleet logo on the spine of case, so if you buy it in person you should know if it's the new set. I think there are different regions if Blu-ray.com is reporting a UK, Germany, US releases, so they probably are Region locked.

Out of interest what are the audio defects?

On the sampler disc I noticed on the stereo track that during a fade out in Encounter at Farpoint the music builds to a crescendo, fades, then suddenly comes back in such a way that sounded like a glitch. However I've read that on the full season release it's only the 7.1 tracks that are affected.

Apparently on several episodes there is sound going to the surrounds that shouldn't be there, basically they 7.1 and 5.1 have the channels mapped wrong. I only watched the first episode and have waited for the replacement discs before watching any more.

Another good reason why HD DVD was better. No region coding.
