Yeah, I know this movie was trashed by critics and audiences, but I personally think it is great for what it is. A really fun, rollercoaster ride of a movie. But, my point is, this is hands down the best sound I have ever experienced on a Laserdisc. Anyone else out there enjoy this soundtrack as well? The bass is BOOMING :shock: when Godzilla comes stompin' into town and each little machine gun or rocket firing just blares through my 6.1 HD Surround Sound System. It just adds to the fun! :D

i saw this in the theatre, and sort of wish i didn't.
never picked up the LD so i can't say anything to the audio.
but it was a later pressed disc so it could have great audio.

Yeah, I have never been much of a Godzilla enthusiast, so there wasn't a lot to offend me in it. What did you not like about it?

i didn't like the whole french thing :thumbdown: and brodrick/greek thing :thumbdown: , godzilla a female to lay eggs :thumbdown:

other than that i liked it.
the underwater torpedos following godzilla to hit the wall downtown at battery park.
blowing stuff at flat iron area on 23st.

since i was living there at the time it was cool to see stuff when they were shooting.
like diehard 3, it was shot on 6th ave and 21st, we went to the roof at the time, they made the
street go the other direction with the begining explosion.
it only lasted a few minutes but they did the shoot from start to finish and it took 2 or so hours,
but when they said action, it was BOOM and done :crazy:

lots of dusts from it, my brother and i saw it :thumbup: but i hated the film :thumbdown:

I saw this at the local Odeon screen 1, on the what used to be a Cinerama curved screen and it looked cool sounded cool with at the time only optical Dolby Stereo A-type.

I only watched the film again a few days ago on youtube full-movie while looking at it on the pc monitor and listening to the sound over the main sound system.

I have the film on R2 DVD first pressing and I'm thinking of buying the Dolby AC-3 Laserdisc the film is cool for sound a bit damn loud as I remember when it played at the cinema. The opening is cool with atomic bombs for bass and sub bass. Size Does Matter. :mrgreen:

The ending was cool too bad they didn't do a sequel. Godzilla the son of Godzilla lives. :thumbup:

I used to see morning matinees on Saturday in the early 70's at another local cinema where original Godzilla films where played. Back then it was 15 pence a ticket. :thumbup: To go to digital 3-d cinema today its about £20.00 RIP-OFF! :evil:

Godzilla 1998 is the kind of film that is panned initially but gets better with time. I like it more now than when I saw it at the theater. There's a good bunch of films like that. Krull comes to mind.

That's better than getting good reviews initially then proving to be over-rated later on. I'm sure we can think of plenty of those films that didn't hold up well. Many of them academy award winners too.

There is a lot to hate about this movie, but that's true of a lot of Godzilla movies. The unforgivable aspects are:

1) The monster itself. It looks nothing at all like Godzilla, it lays eggs. My problem with it laying eggs isn't that its female, but rather that it makes the initial monster less significant. Instead of it being, Godzilla: this creature that is doing a thing for some reason, its just...Godzilla: a plague of swarming iguana things eating and breading and stuff.

2) it cost $130,000,000 friggn dollars to make!!! This is, I would guess, about $120,000,000 more than, say, for example, Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991) which is friggn incredible. Oh what Toho could have done with that much money...it makes me sick just thinking about it. Actually, I shouldn't be sick. They used that much money to make the ENTRIE HEISEI ERA of Godzilla movies which are incredible. Instead of making one bloated sack of crap nobody loves they made seven movies that will have hard core fans forever.

There are reasons this piece of crap never got a sequel while the Japanese series has seen 28 movies. Its uninspired and stupid. Just another cynical blob of crap from the Hollywood remake poop machine.

Better than: City of Angels (1998)

Not as good as: Vanilla Sky (2001)

Not as pointless as: Old Boy (2013)

Rather worse than: Solaris (2002)

James Horner comes to mind with KRULL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RllRPZw--9Q the opening few seconds sounds like 2001: A Space Odyssey then it sounds like Brainstorm then it sounds like or rather Titanic sounded like Krull then it sounds like Willow, and that's what I like about James Horner, and it also sounds like The Rockeeter as well. :lol: All these themes in one film what more can one ask for. :lol: :thumbup: oh and maybe a bit of STAR TREK II as well. :mrgreen:

The movie probably wouldn't have been as hated if it wasn't called "Godzilla"

If it was called "Giant Atomic Lizard Movie" it would have been better received.

The only enjoyable parts were the ones with Jean Reno, because he's awesome.

I actually watched it a few months ago. The last time I saw it was when it originally came out in the theater, I was a kid then.

I knew not to expect a great movie while watching it recently, but it was a fun movie to watch, and a pretty good LD. I like how the jacket (rear) of the LD goes into a lot of details about the film, and even points out Chapter stops when referencing items.
