I can't think of any that I wish had English tracks, but there's quite a few I wish had English subtitles like most of the Godzilla and Ghibli films. |

Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind HK - bought that thinking it was a release of the New World Pictures butchering of this Hayao Miyazaki classic (to have just for the helluvit) as it has the NW title on the cover "Warriors of the Wind," but it has no English soundtrack. Says it has English subtitles on the cover, but it has none of those either. Tenchi Muyo! In Love 2 and Tenchi Muyo! Manatsu no Eve - one the Japanese box sets for the for the first movie featured the English dubbed soundtrack; the other box set at least had English closed captions. but the later movies never got an English soundtrack or even English captions--despite both movies being released in the US English dubbed and subtitled. Manatsu no Eve even got a bilingual US LD release--but it's only a single disc with no extras. The Green Slime (Gamma sango uchu daisakusen) - no English soundtrack option even though it was shot in English. Only the Japanese dub is on the disc. Sucks too as it is such an awesome piece of American/Japanese/Italian collaborative cheese (here's the trailer if you want to see how cheesy.) It is available on DVD, but only "on demand DVD." |

Could it be possible there are English subs in closed caption "CaptionVision" form? I'm always surprised at the number of Japanese LaserDisc releases that have English closed captions - even on discs that don't have the CC CaptionVision logo. |

I'd like to see the amazing film Europa Europa remastered with dubbing by the original actors, much like Das Boot had done. I love Europa Europa in its subtitled form but would love to have a well done English dubbed option. And does the film exist on DVD or BD? All I've ever found was the passible Technidisc pressing from Image. |

Now that I think of it...a dubbed Nausicaa would be interesting. While the only English version that existed at the time, the much maligned Warriors of the Wind, was heavily edited, the actual quality of the dub, the timing, the acting, was actually very good. I have no idea if when you go to murder a classic like that you dub the thing and then cut it down, of they dubbed it after it was cut down 18 minutes. If the former is true, maybe the entire thing exists somewhere, which would be fun to see. In general, dubs are basically for idiots and children, but Warriors of the Wind was the first thing most American Ghibli fans saw so there is huge nostalgic value. I first saw it on HBO, probably in 1985 or 1986. I eventually found the VHS but gave it away to a friend when I got the LD in 1991-1992. |

If the former is true, maybe the entire thing exists somewhere, which would be fun to see. I'm pretty sure the dub script was written, & animation cut down to fit the script. So, any "Warriors of the Wind" English voice track (or, God forbid, derived subtitles) would be substantially shorter than the actual film, with embarrasing gaps — not to mention the bastardized storyline. |
