does a cx encoded copy of popeye (1980) exist?
and are there any widescreen copies of coming to america (1988)?

No, Popeye was never CX encoded. It's not surround sound encoded either - its just plain stereo. Popeye used the VistaSonic system in theaters and it didn't translate to home video like Dolby Stereo. Popeye on DVD is fantastic though - beautiful widescreen and excellent surround sound.

yes, i saw popeye and it's a great super clear transfer.
if you bought an LD player just to get popeye you have to get your priority in order :yawn:

Popeye is a nasty early Carson pressing, with chroma noise, snits, etc... And it's actually rather rare - Paramount didn't press many since it was such a dud in the theaters. And it never got a repressing after its original 82 disc release.

Now, I'd you are talking about the DVD, Paramount did a wonderful job.

Trivia note - the VistaSonic sound format that Popeye and Dragonslayer used theatrically was invented by Terry Beard, the inventor of the theatrical DTS-6 digital sound system.

so then, if everybody tells you the DVD is better for Popeye, why don't you get the DVD and don't bother with the LD :yawn:
