Star Trek V is the only one with an intro, the rest go right into titles. TMP has that music intro, the star field was removed in the Blu ray release.

The star field was added to the home video releases for the overture on TMP, so the BD is presenting it the correct way, with a black screen - in the better theaters, the curtains were closed and house lights up.

Even thou it was never featured at the cinema (only on Laserdisc). Not sure if the VHS editions widescreen, had it on it? I need VHS player to check it.

When we saw TMP theatrically on opening day it had the overture before the lights dimmed and the curtains opened. I have the original p/s LaserDisc's, which would be the same transfers as the 1981 VHS and Beta Paramount tapes, so I need to check the discs and see if the star field is there during the overture. I have the special longer version LaserDisc too that I'll check also.

I don't think it was included in the UK release of '79 at the cinema I never heard on re-runs with double bills.

Isn't it common today that movies don't show their title until the end credits? I haven't seen many movies made after 2005 though.

I was wondering why they removed it. I figured it had to do with making it more original since it was on Blu ray.

Looking at the different releases of TMP:

1981 132 min LD Theatrical version P&S
1983 143 min LD 12 minutes of added footage P&S
1991 132 min LD Theatrical version 2.35 (only LTB Theatrical version until 2009 Blu ray?) Same as 1995 Movie Voyages?
2001 DVD Director's cut 136 minutes with restored and enhanced footage. No later DVD editions were released despite the Special Editions a few years later.
2009 Blu ray with 132 min Theatrical version, 2.35 the additonal 12 minutes are not available. Reportedly the 2001 composites included were not re edited in 1080p, only 480p up-convert.

Is the TV version from the 80's the same as the '83 LD cut? I wonder what the differences are between the 83 LD 143 min. vs the 136 min director's cut and TV 143 min.

I think I prefer the theatrical cut simply because it's shorter and the sooner this one gets over the better. The pacing is very slow. Still I'm surprised they didn't include the director's cut in the Blu ray release. There are many complaints about the Blu ray releases so maybe we'll get a new release soon.

No, I would think it would be quite rare. I would say less than .5 percent.

A few come to mind but as to which ones I have in my collection?
Or are you sure its not the other away around?
I often see the title at beginning and on the end credits. Some of the Warner films do it, BATMAN Begins comes to mind Executive Decision (1996) But the older ones have title at the start longer opening titles and shorter end credits.
