What I've always wanted to find is the original mono mix for the film in the 145 minute original director's cut. The 5.1 remix isn't very involving and sounds very much like a Prologic mix converted at standard bitrate. (Which it is, even on the BD) The mono was used for all 35mm prints and supposedly is on the initial Warner LD release, Wild Bunch, The (1969) [1014 LV], does anyone have this to confirm if it is both a true mono mix and the director's cut?

I'm betting the Prologic PCM on the later LDs will be superior to its 5.1 counterpart because the film was 70mm 6 track in '69 and for some reason I find quite a few other vintage 70mm films sound better in ProLogic on LD than restored 5.1 discrete on DVD. (Ryan's Daughter is one)

I'm assuming a mix down to mono isn't good enough? I ask because that's probably what's on the analog left for all the AC-3 releases.

I have Wild Bunch, The (1969) (Uncut) [14034] and I wasn't exactly blown away by the sound, but the movie in general seemed pretty nihilistic and pointless anyway. After hearing about how edgy and awesome The Wild Bunch supposedly was I was pretty unimpressed when I saw it for the first time last year. The central premise, the end of an era, becoming old in a young man's world, etc, is fine but instead of really fleshing that out they just raised the violence through the roof for not much gain at all. I found it to be about as edgy and awesome as Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In

I think you'd have to be a huge fan of The Wild Bunch, or at least have multiple pressings to compare.

i just played it and the L1 is mono, if it's the original or remixed ? how to tell who knows and why
care, if it's mono it's mono and probably the closest that you will get unless you have an original print.

good luck sdraper

Yeeep. :D Just a fanboy question to be honest, because I've always wondered how that mix sounded with all of the gunfire. Plus to my ears the remix could be bit better.

Thanks, I'll have to get one and then do side-by-sides just for curiosity's sake. I must be a bit
