I can see that many people have a few Spaghetti Westerns in their laserdisc collections - the most popular being:
Fistful of Dollars, A (1964) [ML101796]
For A Few Dollars More (1965) [ML102226]
Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The (1966) [ML101739]

I just thought I'd start a thread on the subject as I feel there are other great Spaghetti Westerns available on laserdisc which rarely ever get a mention and many are not even listed as being present in people's collections.

First a superb set of 5 Italian westerns released by Columbia Video Discs in 1985 which were only released in Japan:
Days of Vengeance (1966) (Uncut) [98C59-6064]
Tierra Brava (1969) [98C59-6065]
Django (1966) [98C59-6066]
Massacre Time (1966) [98C59-6067]
Per Pochi Dollari Ancora (1966) [98C59-6068]

All of these are tough to find these days. I had acquired a decent used copy of Massacre Time a few years ago, but hit it lucky recently when I picked up the other 4 all sealed and in pristine condition:

Another set of 5 Spaghetti westerns that was issued by publisher Bandai / Emotion in 1996 consists of:
My Name is Nobody (1973) [BELL-900]
Django, Kill! (If You Live Shoot) (1967) [BELL-901]
Vamos a matar, companeros (1970) [BELL-902]
Great Silence, The (1968) [BELL-903]
J & S: Criminal Story of an Outlaw Couple (1972) [BELL-904]

Then of course there are the two Trinity movies starring Terence Hill & Bud Spencer as well as the epic 'Once Upon a Time In the West' and less well known but still excellent 'A Bullet for the General'.

I just won an auction for the Dollars films in the Eastwood box, so can't wait to review those.
Otherwise I've got the extended letterbox MGM release of Duck You Sucker/Fistful of Dynamite, which is the only place besides PAL DVD to get the original unflawed mono audio.

i don't have any in that first picture, but i do have my name is nobody, sonny and jed and bullet for the grenral.

i think that is an amazing film, quién sabe? amazing totally underrated. :thumbup:

sonny and jed, i don't really think of that one as a western but it's got some amazing lines in it :lol:
from what i can remember "large enough to feed the world" :lol: :lol: :lol:

and once upon a time in the west is another great one.

I agree that 'A Bullet For the General' is massively underrated. I saw it late one night about 15 years ago and loved it.
J & S: Criminal Story of an Outlaw Couple - definitely regarded as a Spaghetti Western and even features music by Ennio Morricone.
Looking forward to watching several of the early Columbia Video Discs today!

There is also a really cheap boxset available on DVD that features 44 Spaghetti Westerns that I bought some time ago.

I love all these movies.

The 3 must have Columbia releases are Days of Vengeance, Django and Massacre Time but if you get those you'll not stop until you complete the set.

Favourites overall - My Name is Nobody, Django and A Bullet For the General but they all have their moments.
My Name is Nobody has a beautiful music score, but perhaps is a little bit too slapstick.
Django - you will never forget that coffin getting dragged about and the sheer violence throughout.
A Bullet For the General has a less impressive music score but is still a wonderful film overall. The train and machine gun scenes are unforgettable.

i agree with all above but have to add for me the last scene was the best in bullet for the general.

as for sonny and jed, i know it's a spaghetti western but just has less of a western than some of the other.
i still think it's a great one. :thumbup:

My favorite is Once Upon a Time in the West.

Django looks to be 1.33 on LD (maybe it's wrong on the database?), the rest look like original transfers, except maybe the Trinity ones. Django has a Blu ray release. Of course the covers don't compare. The Blu ray offers an English dub or Italian with Eng subtitles. I doubt many of these show up for sale on LD, especially the Jap. ones.

Interesting point... I actually had believed because it was such a popular genre and the films take place in America/Mexico that the dubbing was part of the style, intentional and in fact the original versions!!

Yeah, and many of them weren't even filmed in the US, like the Good the Bad and the Ugly. Kind of made sense when I read more about it later in life. I never would have known based on the locations they used.

Apparently the language tracks aren't the same on Django, the closest would be the Italian with Eng. subtitles, the English dub is slightly different dialog on the BD.

Yes indeed it is. I eventually located a copy of Alive or Preferably Dead (Vivi o, preferibilmente, morti) (1969) [G58F0300]

Another fun one which you unfortunately won't find on laserdisc is "The Good, The Bad, The Weird," which is a wonderful Korean take on the genre, set in 1930s Manchuria - it has gun battles, banditos (Korean and Chinese), a train heist, wirework, and a climactic battle between four or five different factions including the Imperial Japanese Army. It's absolutely brilliant, and I strongly recommend it - subtitled, but the action is so good it really doesn't matter.

I just bought "vamos a matar companeros", shipped from japan. Good video quality, and it is the only one with Italian audio. I am Italian and therefore it is important for me ;-)

Just picked up a copy of Good Bad Weird on DVD for a buck.
Its been so long that I only have sold My Name Is Nobody.
