Screamers, cyborg, moon 44, solar crisis, leviathan, deepstar six, thx 1138, fahrenheit 451, alien are some of the ones I love. Mostly 80s and 90s but some older stuff too. I like to discover new stuff(new to me). Any recommendations?

Fortress, the UK release has a few extra seconds of violence if that floats your boat.

1) Fifth Element and if it's the cover art that appeals then purchase the Japanese version .......Just a thought.
2) CONTACT is a great experience on Laserdisc again go for the Japanese pressing as well as the US version (US had some rot issues.)

3) ANIME on Laserdsic then check SPRIGGAN great movie Japan only, with a great textured gatefold cover.

I hope this helps

Kind Regards

That's a broad question, but based on what you like so far, have you considered:

Altered States
The Abyss
A Boy and his Dog
Naked Lunch
?

Stargate DTS if you can find it (it's the "Special Edition" and also sounds amazing.)
Flash Gordon (1980) - it's campy as all hell, but I love it!

A Bradbury title was in the original mix......

Illustrated Man is highly recommended in that light !

Also, Starship Troopers is either a love / hate Sci-Fi ld.......

-All the original Planet of the Apes movies.....
-Damnation Alley (PAL only release !)......
-Starman (John Carpenter classic)....
-They Live (another John Carpenter classic).....
-All the original star trek episodes (if you have the Trekkie gene)
-Star Trek motion pictures .........
-any and all Japanese Kaiju classics (monster movies !!!)

Threw in my hat, good hunting !!!!

Just saw RiffTrax in the theater last week where they riffed Starship Troopers. So f**king hilarious!

pretty much anything that has scientific and technologic elements I guess. Generally stuff that doesn't happen in real life(at least not yet) But then would you consider Apollo 13 sci-fi or historic drama?

Yes I love Fortress and its sequel. US home video releases are all P&S(I don't know if open matte) but UK DVD is widescreen and uncut. It has been in my list of DVDs I should order from UK for some time.
I love Christopher Lambert movies. I watched Highlander:Endgame yesterday. Fortress is also on BD now but I don't know if its uncut.

thank you

Hi Benmbe,

I am mostly interested in the content but a good cover art is always a good thing. I do own Contact and Fifth Element on number of different formats. What I am looking for is more obsecure, lesser known, possibly B type low budget but great ideas and imagination.
I don't know about Spriggan, is it English friendly?

Yes It is very broad indeed. I am mostly interested in underwater, outer space, alien/species, post-apocalyptic, or art-science such as solaris, 2001.
monsters, action sci-fi(transformers etc.), superhero type does not interest me much.

I actually own Naked Lunch and Altered States but never watched them yet. I was considering A Boy and his Dog for some time.

thanks

Yes Damnation Alley apparently made it to BD in the US(skipped DVD). I don't have PAL LD playback capability so I will have to pick up the DVD. It is indeed the type of movie I was looking for.
I watched They Live a few weeks ago, I enjoyed it so much. I just love Carpenter films

thanks

I recently bought the new CGI made sequel(4th one I think). I like the first 2 more than the last 2.

The Roan Group LaserDisc release of Target Earth. I love that film and the LaserDisc is great, especially since it has a wonderful commentary and the press kit done as a newspaper about the alien invasion. The transfer is beautiful and captures the B/W cinematography perfectly. Plus the jacket is thick cardboard, like a Japanese release - my LaserDisc of Mothers Day has a thick jacket like that too.

I know Plan 9 is considered hilarious and people love it, but I just have never been able to get into it and find any of it funny - its just so bad its BAD, IMO. So I always feel like the odd man out when Plan 9 is discussed since I simply don't like it. Now Ed Woods film Orgy Of The Damned is funny and hilariously bad.

Of course, my favorite film of all time is Earthquake, so make what you will of my comments and film preferences.

That's OK, I still like Plan 9, it's so hokey!!! I also enjoy earthquake, especially when the cattle gets dumped off the overpass (makes me laugh...sick sense of humor).

Sci-Fi laserdiscs: Guilty sci-fi pleasure of mine is "Timecop". I just watched "Total Recall" the other night and I really enjoyed it! I tend to go for the classics more though, like the Criterion "The Blob" and the Universal Sci-Fi Thriller box sets, one of which contains "The Monolith Monsters", which I really LOOOVE.

Good day to you Substance,

SPRIGGAN is a Japanese title and was only released in japan.
It's been a long time since I played this title, so please forgive my forgetfulness, but I believe this to be in Japanese only and cannot remember what language the subtitles were in.

It was high budget and great quality Dolby Digital sound

Regards to you
