Having Japanese only discs I don't know exactly about Spriggen( I had the DVD a long time ago) it is highly unlikely to have English subs. I haven't encounter any that are Japanese Subs unless its a Hollywood movie like Blade Runner which is in English and has Japanese subs.

Akira and Ghost in the Shell are Sci-Fi anime classics available with dubbed tracks on LD. The Akira triple gatefold Criterion CAV edition is wonderful and a Japanese box set of the film also included the same Streamline dub in a very nice package too. Ghost in the Shell got the super deluxe treatment with the Japanese market "Premium Box" which also includes an English dub track (I need to get this box myself).

Hello harlock,

The AKIRA "Premium Box" as you mentioned superb.
I have this at home, along with the Japanese regular version, they are both great collectors items.

Nicholas Santini had one or two for sale and, may still have them if your interested.

Kind Regards

 :D

Ooh, now I have to find that Fantastic Voyage disc. Some of my favorites are

Incredible Shrinking Man, The (1957) [23004]

Andromeda Strain, The (1971) [13001]

Thing from Another World, The (1951) [ID6996TU]

War of the Worlds, The (1953) [LV 5303-2]

Invasion of the Body Snatchers #8A (1956) [CC1174L]

I also second the Illustrated Man Recommendation

Don't forget "Robot Monster"!

Some others worthy of consideration:

Escape From New York (not terribly realistic but fun)
The Road Warrior (The best of the Mad Max movies IMHO)
The World, the Flesh and the Devil
Gunhed (only available on LD from Japan - partially in English Dialogue) - there is a good u.s. dvd though
Strange Invaders
Death Machine - best LD version is the Japanese one
Trancers (AKA Futurecop)
Battle Beyond the Stars (one of R. Corman's better films)
Flesh Gordon - pretty decent for what it is - p0rn parody that was changed to an R film in production - pretty funny if you like the old cliffhanger serials
John Carpenter's "The Thing" - not a remake of the '51 version but a revision to the original novella "Who Goes There?"
Hardware
Grand Tour Disaster In time
Virus (Aka "Fukkatsu No Hi") Only available on ld from Japan and Hong Kong - most u.s. dvds are horribly truncated (by about 50 minutes) - there is an excellent (and complete) transfer on the "Sonny Chiba Action Collection"
Metropolis (Morodor soundtrack version)
Colossus the Forbin Project (really dated but still interesting)
Panic in the Year Zero
Cafe Flesh - very interesting experimental film modified into a p0rn movie because the people making it couldn't find any funding other than someone who wanted a p0rn film made - sad because you can see where they were originally going
This Island Earth
Forbidden Planet
