Has anyone noticed that the Dick Tracy (Warren Beatty one) 1066 CS slipcover states that 'Dick Tracy is presented in the aspect ratio in which the movie was originally filmed' yet it is actually pan-and-scan.

Did they just mess up?

This is the best image I could find online http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt28 ... -groot.jpg. Right above the cast.

it is very strange, as "hi-fi stereo" is only found on vhs tapes.

no, it was shot in open matte and then would or could have been "matted" with the black bars on the top and bottom.
i saw this in the theatre but can't remember much about the image.

so they were trying to sell it as that so people didn't wait for the "widescreen" version.
hope that helps.

What has Hifi Stereo to do with this Laserdisc?
Besides that, Hifi Stereo is also used on Betamax! :P

Not Umatic, Umatic had only linear audio.
Only (S)VHS, Betamax and Video8/Hi8 had Hifi.... except for Pro (S)VHS.... That was HD-audio :P
MII and Betacam had AFM
