As the year 2013 comes to a close, it seems appropriate to review the late release movies I managed to pickup on laserdisc throughout the year.

You may recall I did a similiar thread at the end of 2012:
My late release movies I got in 2012....

This really continues where that thread left off.
I didn't manage to gather so many titles this year but that was entirely expected as my movie wishlist is far smaller and I also had less time to focus on finding titles as I was busy doing many other things. All in all I'm still very pleased with the titles I did find and would like to thank everyone on the forum, Ebay and all other laserdisc sites for helping me to track these down and for packaging everything so carefully so they arrived in great condition. Here's to 2014.....!

First some of the very popular or sought after Japanese laserdisc releases that are often discussed on the forum.
It was great to get nice copies of the Cell and also Titan A.E. at very reasonable prices given the demand for these titles today.

Other late releases are not discussed so often and I feel are a bit underrated.
I watched most of these over the Christmas period and enjoyed them.
The strange painted effects shown in What Dreams May Come in particular is something I've never seen in any other movie that I can recall.

I added a few of the more desirable squeeze movies to my collection to see what all the fuss was about.
Great picture quality, but I was a bit underwhelmed by the flimsy Japanese packaging used for some of these late releases.
Thankfully all the copies I own are near mint with absolutely no damage but I could easily see how they could
get damaged as the covers were very lightweight (US grade) and not what I have come to expect from Japan releases.
The only exception was the Message in a Bottle movie starring Kevin Costner which came in a really high quality sleeve.

I managed to find a few US late releases that were on my wishlist as well:

I also added a few late release re-issues of classics to my collection:

The cover should be entered into the Japanese database.

My wishlist of late movie laserdisc releases is getting smaller with each passing year. I hope to add maybe 30-40 new titles in 2014. I'd love to score a few more really sought after titles - I'm working on one at the moment.
The rest will be a mixture of the less well known Japanese and US releases, many of which are relatively inexpensive to acquire.
Again I hope to add a few older classic re-issues - I've earmarked a number of these already from checks I've done on LDDB.com.

My main focus though still remains music on laserdisc. I probably buy 30 music LDs for every 1 movie. I'm still unearthing many new and interesting music titles which I never thought existed. I discovered a few more gems over the Christmas period.

Is Trainspotting really rare? I thought it was fairly common.

Nice stuff anyway. How is the THX-remaster of Terminator 2? The original Squeeze is quite problematic in terms of picture quality.

Trainspotting isn't rare at all. It was just one of the later 90's titles I picked up.
Haven't had the opportunity to compare squeeze Terminator with the other edition you mention.

what did you pay for Titan A.E and The Cell? so those dude who ask $6000 can see the real picture for what these are really going to sell. And since you own your copies now, yes they have 1 less interested person out a handful who will pay high dollar amount for these.

Well 'The Cell' is the very last (2001-07-25) English Language movie ever released on laserdisc so in theory it should be worth more than the Sixth Day. It also features an unrated edition containing footage not included on the DVD making it that little bit more desirable for the collector. The last recorded sale of the Cell on LDDB.com was in 2011 and it fetched $1275. I paid $500 USD in April 2013. Interestingly it is rated as number 6 in the top 100 wishlist currently on LDDB.com.

Titan A.E. is rated number 9 in the top 100 wishlist so not far behind. It seems a lot of people want this title even though it has a much older release date (2000-12-22). I paid $475 USD in November 2013.

I suspect both could be sold on at a profit (particularly The Cell) however I have no intention of selling either at this point in time.

I think you got a good deal in the cell. $1275 is probably most someone would pay for it and that someone already got his copy. There is probably still a couple of collectors who would pay $500-1000 range but you can never find it again so not worth selling.

Titan imo is worth just that much. $700 max.

I'd agree with that. Condition is also a big factor to contend with. I don't know what condition the copy that sold for $1275 was in but my copy of The Cell is certainly complete and other than a small corner ding is in very nice shape. Titan A.E is also complete and similiarly clean with only a very light scratch on the back being the only wear. I was very pleased with both given the rarity and prices. Both sellers whom I bought these from were very professional in how they packaged the discs and very pleasant to deal with in general.
