I'm on a kick since acquiring The Long Good Friday and Mona Lisa. Any suggestions for this genre, preferably US and Japan releases since I don't plan on getting a PAL player.

Get Carter (1971)
I'll Sleep When I'm Dead (2003)
Layer Cake (2004)
The Limey (1999)
Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (1998)
Performance (1970)
Sexy Beast (2000)
Snatch (2000)

You might be interested in The Krays (1990), too. I didn't like it, but I thought I'd mention it just the same. Also, I've never seen Brighton Rock (1947), but I've heard good things about it.

Trainspotting (1996)

Also, speaking of Ewan McGregor, he was in a really good British neo-noir film called Shallow Grave (1994). Not exactly a gangster film, but crime is involved.

I've never heard of The Krays or Performance so I'll check those out. The rest of your suggestions have obviously not been released on laserdisc!

Oops, yeah. I posted without fully comprehending that only British gangster films on LaserDisc were wanted. If you have a DVD player, the others are worth checking out.

*EDIT* Actually, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and The Limey are also on LaserDisc.

The Krays (1990) is excellent, and was based on actual scumbags. Of course I didn't like what happened to the woman one of the Krays married. That was depressing, even more so because it actually happened.

STAY AWESOME!

The real life brothers were also the inspiration for the Monty Python skit the Piranha Brothers.

Not sure if Trainspotting is really a gangster film, though it's certainly got gangster elements. Either way the Criterion laserdisc is up to their usual standard with some good extras and nice packaging.

I wish Get Carter had been released on LD. Simply for lossless mono. The DVd leaves a bit to be desired and pales in comparison to the 35mm print I saw in an art house.

No it's the original disc which is the exact same one as the Archive version. WB just started making their harder to find cult titles part of the Archive series.

Some of the above I have seen ether on youtube TV DVD or Laserdisc? There are some titles on the thread that wouldn't have made Laserdisc release because it was retired too early.

Here is few I found also double checked on this link http://www.listal.com/list/british-gangster-movies

Buster (1986) stars (Phil Collins) as Buster Edwards one of the bank robbers of the train robbery.
http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/40189/50817/Buster-(1988)

Face (1997) no picture cover for this, its the one that stars (Robert Carlyle).
http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/37755/LSC ... Face-(1997)

I looked though the database for Villian (1971) that stars (Richard Burton) nothing unless I used wrong keywords in the search?
